Mama, We’re All Voxely Now: Open Outcast

By Kieron Gillen on February 18th, 2010.

Cutter Slade is the bets of the Orange-T-shirt-wearing game heroes

Flint linked this to us a couple of days ago, and I haven’t got around to posting it until now. Pah! Anyway, Open Outcast is a work-in progress mod of Crysis Wars, which is trying to create a sequel to the 99 voxel-heavy Cutter Slade-starring classic. They’ve reached their first major milestone, releasing a tech-demo of the game. Crikey. Well done them. You can get it from ModDB and – apparently - it only requires the trial rather than the full version of Crysis Wars. As a historical note, John’s first review was a reader-review submission slagging off Outcast for being like looking at a wonderful world through a snotty hanky. If you look at the four videos beneath the cut, you can tell that 2010 Walker wouldn’t be able to make the same complaints…

How To Shoot People For Free

By Alec Meer on December 11th, 2009.

Ah, the free weekend – a delectable demonstration that traditional box-bound videogaming is a relic of yesterday. It’s stupidly simple to download a few gigabytes of game within just a couple of hours, then dispose of it without concern. It’s done fine things for the likes of Team Fortress 2, Killing Floor and Unreal Tournament 3, so any bugger with an ounce of sense is trying the same thing. Currently, the unrespected Dreamkiller is at it until the end of the weekend – pick it up from Steam. Could a cheery overload of multiplay fun save it from its bad word of mouth? Plus, next weekend, Crysis Wars – the online component of Crysis: Warhead – goes free to play for 10 days. No Steam required there, but you do need to sign up to official fansite MyCrisis.

Crysis Free Week From April 9th

By Jim Rossignol on April 4th, 2009.

News of another free week of Crysis Wars has turned up over on the community forums, and BigDownload reckon it’s from April 9th. Word is that the official community portal – the existential-sounding MyCrysis.com – will have details on how to get in on the free week from Monday. (And Crysis Wars, in case you were wondering, is the multiplayer aspect of Crysis: Warhead. In it everyone gets the super nano-suits, and can do each other harm with MAXIMUM-strength, vehicular escalation, and cloaker-sneaking goodness. It’s actually a bit of a laugh, although not one of my all time favourites for online FPS.)

Crysis Wars Free Weekend, Trailer

By Jim Rossignol on October 7th, 2008.

Crysis Wars is the multiplayer accompaniment to recent Crysis… paraquel? That can be a word, right? Anyway, it’s the multiplayer project that came along with Crysis Warhead, only its been a bit delayed. To make up for this lag in release dates the Crysis Wars teams are allowing people to register on the official site for a weekend of free Crysis Wars play from the 10th to the 12th. So if you’re at a loss for how to sink your idle hours this weekend then this might sort you right out. Of course you’ll need to be a fan of fast-paced multiplayer FPS games, and be comfortable with the idea of being punched to death by that guy who is miraculously incredible at the game, despite having only played it for half an hour. You know the one.

A pacey trailer that features a lot of nanosuits getting spectacularly whacked follows after the jump.

Crysis Wars: 13-Day Aged Prime-Cut Trailer

By Kieron Gillen on August 26th, 2008.

This is a little old, but we somehow didn’t post it when it hit the web a week ago and since I’ve been deep in Crysis: Warhead today for a magazine, it seemed appropriate. It’s a video showing Crysis Warhead’s included re-imagining of the Crysis multiplayer. In short: more short. Intense. More thoughts on FPS-multiplayer and completely random Mass Effect stuff beneath the cut.

What’s next? www.dontcrysisformeargentina.com?

By Kieron Gillen on June 2nd, 2008.

The Crysis Videogame Features Splenditudiral Polygonal Images Of Tanks.
I was passing through the ‘Gaf when I noted some chattering about Incrysis discovering Crytek had registered a new trademark and another website. The name in question? “Crysis Warzone”. Apparently, this brings four marks/sites having been registered – alongside Wazone we have Crysis Warhead, Crysis Wars and the brilliantly suggestive World In Crysis. One of them will clearly be the inevitable console version. Others could just be Crytek not deciding exactly what to call their inevitable console version. But – we suspect – not all of them. Whatever could World In Crysis actually be, eh? Speculation: Go!
