Degenerating: Doctor Who – Worlds In Time Shutting Down

By Adam Smith on January 16th, 2014.

I don’t keep up to date with Doctor Who but when the nature of your job means that you follow a bunch of geeky McNerdsters on Twitter, it’s impossible to avoid the basics. It was impossible to avoid the revelation that the new Doctor is the sweariest man on television and I couldn’t ignore the fury of the people who were annoyed by the episode in which the Doc’s most faithful companion got married and the show turned into a bit of a sitcom. Correct me if I’m wrong on any of this. Despte being one of the internet’s most popular franchises, with all kinds of ready made scenarios and villains, Doctor Who hasn’t made a comfortable switch into the world of games. The latest evidence? The BBC’s puzzling MMO is shutting down on Feb 28th.

Doctor Who: Worlds In Time Semi-Launches

By Adam Smith on December 20th, 2011.

The Doctor has kissed everyone in that picture, including himself

There’s been another MMO launch today, sort of. The ‘open preview’ of Doctor Who: Worlds In Time can now be played over here. With The Old Republic now available, it would be fun if this was turned into a clash between widely loved sci-fi franchises but that is not to be. The two games are as different as two games can be, unless one were hopscotch and the other were the clash of Empires that was The Great Game of the nineteenth century. Doctor Who: WIT, you see, appears to be in the same mould as Three Rings’ previous title Puzzle Pirates. There’s a Doctor to dish out missions, themed puzzles and a bunch of familiar worlds to investigate. Could be fun. Sign up here, watch trailer below.

Lord Of Time Craft: Doctor Who MMO

By Adam Smith on November 18th, 2011.

It seems like a long while since the announcement of Three Rings’ Doctor Who: Worlds In Time but perhaps not. Perhaps it will actually be announced yestermorrow and I’m writing this from a place between moments, stuck in the gaps between seasons, trapped in the trembling alcove between the tick and the tock. What I have been able to discern from this aching voidspace, which echoes with the shrieks of collapsing realities, is that on 18th November 2011 it will be vital for me to inform you that Sega have acquired the erstwhile Puzzle Pirates developers and will be helping to bring the Doctor Who MMO to fruition.

My Time Lord: Doctor Who MMO Announced

By John Walker on February 24th, 2011.

They're doing what now?

Because Doctor Who is a thing that exists, and because there is an internet with games on it, there is going to be a free-to-play Doctor Who MMO. The BBC’s commercial arm (which is about to be lopped off in sacrifice to the mad god Cameron), BBC Worldwide, has announced that further to their pretty poor third-person action-adventure game things, there will be a massively multiplayer game based on the license. To be developed by indie team Three Rings (Puzzle Pirates), it’s called Doctor Who: Worlds In Time, and is due out some time later this year.
