Reboot: Otherlands MMO Finally Drawing Near

Sci-fi novel series-turned-MMO Otherland [official site] has been stuck in limbo since 2010 when a release date came and went without so much as a faint rustling of tumbleweeds in the games media world. So what’s going on exactly?

After getting a second temporary release date back in 2012, which once again passed us all by, Otherland is going for a release date announcement hat-trick. It’s now scheduled to launch on Steam as an Early Access release on August 26th.

Down And (Fall) Out: Grimlands Kickstarter Canceled

I walk a lonely road / The only one that I have ever not gotten radiation poisoning on

I quite like the sound of Grimlands. By its creator’s own admission, it’s basically a grit-and-oil-thick smoothie of Fallout, Borderlands, and Ultima Online, and the only way that could sound more appealing to me is if it included a kitten on a unicycle who could also assuage my fears about an increasingly superficial, transient modern society. So with its rise, so too came my hopes. And then it fell, and I was sad. But then it resurfaced on Kickstarter, and my intestinal butterflies were all aflutter once more. And now? Now I’m not entirely sure what to think.

A Falling Out: Grimlands Dusts Off Kickstarter

Drago Entertainment have posted a Kickstarter for Grimlands, a post-apocalyptic MMOFPS that was going to be published by F2P maestros Gamigo, but recently got cancelled. The game concept is one that ticks some of my favourite boxes: “We strive to mix the shooter- and RPG-gameplay inspired by Fallout 3 and Borderlands with the social dynamics and freedom of choice like in Ultima Online.” That’s development director Lucjan Mikociak, who claims that Grimlands is the game he always wanted to play. I think it might be the game a few of you always wanted to play, too.
