Hacking, slashing and indeed crawling through dungeons should get boring, shouldn’t it? Even when they’re randomly generated, aren’t they all the same? Dank, grimy, dim and claustrophobic. Rubbish places. If I came across one at the bottom of my street I’d complain to the council. But when Cardinal Quest invites me to go slay an evil minotaur I’m more than ready to trudge down, level by level, seeing what I can discover. Spruced up, streamlined Roguelikes are becoming more popular and this is a fine example.

Dungeons – The Dark Lord Conjures Footage
By Jim Rossignol on August 4th, 2011.

EDIT: Alternative trailer.
Kalypso have sent word that their follow-up to dungeon management game Dungeons is closing in. Dungeons – The Dark Lord will land on 23rd September, bringing with it a new single-player campaign set in an “ice-crystal” cavern, and multiplayer. Kalypso report: “Three multiplayer modes for up to four players: Deathmatch, King of the Hill and Survival,” which represents a big change for the game.
Needless to say, there’s a trailer chained up in the dungeon below.

Devilish Download: Dungeons Demo
By John Walker on February 8th, 2011.

Alec was pleasantly surprised last week by Dungeons – a German reinvention of Dungeon Keeper themes, with enough of its own twists and turns to make it a worthwhile game in its own right. But until this very day there was no English demo to check out. Thank the ears of Horace, that’s all now changed, with Kalypso releasing three single-player levels, and a survival mode map for freeeeee. You can get this morsel here, here, or perhaps here. Go, be villainous.
Impressions: Dungeons

So I guess I’ve written that this is a Dungeon Keeper clone in a whole bunch of places over the last few months.
Whoops.

Dungeon Peeker: Dungeons Trailer
By Jim Rossignol on December 10th, 2010.

Dungeon-keeping dungeon-based dungeon game Dungeons has a new trailer out. We’ve put in the dungeon, below. Dungeon! Dungeoning aside, it’s looking pretty good. If they can get that oh-so-knife-edge balance right to produce the kind of continuous challenge we came to expect from… other games in a similar genre, then it could be good. Hell, you could help that happen, if you sign up for the ongoing beta test. Why wouldn’t you do that?
We also have a release dungeon: February 2011.

For Keeps: Dungeons Gets Beta Sign Ups
By Jim Rossignol on October 29th, 2010.

It’s not Dungeon Keeper, but it dungeon keeping. Dungeons is being published by Kalypso, and it looks like it might scratch a rather specific itch. Our resident Dungeon Keeper aficionado posted some tentative thoughts about the game here, and I can now point you guys towards the beta sign up for the game over here. Definitely worth applying for this one.
That’s A Lot Of Bull: Dungeons Teaser
By John Walker on August 19th, 2010.

As Alec excitedly told us a week ago, German developers Realmforge are creating Dungeons – a game that’s very obviously an updated tribute to Dungeon Keeper. To get the man even more worked up, there’s a CGI teaser trailer below. It really doesn’t tell us anything useful about the game, but if you listen carefully you can hear Alec squealing all the way from Cologne.
