Wot I Think: Enemy Front

By Tim Stone on June 16th, 2014.

During the 11 hours I’ve spent with this CryEngined WW2 shooter so far, I’ve had 4671 separate thoughts. Here are 50 of the most telling.

#2038. I’ve just hacked a man to death with his own entrenching tool. I’m not sure I should be feeling quite this gleeful.

#2099. Player-protagonist Robert Hawkins has the personality of a sandbag, but better a bland hero than an irritating one.

#1775. Look Mum, I’m in The Heroes of Telemark!

#1690. Look Dad, I’m in Where Eagles Dare! Read the rest of this entry »

Correspondents Winner: World War 2 Is Back In Enemy Front

By Graham Smith on May 30th, 2014.

I remember when this here were all World War 2 games, as far as the eye can see. Before we had yer modern warfares and yer advanced warfares and yer fancy space games fer use in intros about commonplace genres, it was all about Nazis, hedges in France and Steven Spielberg movies.

With Wolfenstein out and City Interactive’s Enemy Front just around the corner, let’s pretend it is that way again. This latest manshoot is about an American war correspondent playing witness (and gun-pal) to the Warsaw resistance, and this new story trailer wants to convince you of its serious intent.

World War II Never Changes: Enemy Front

By Adam Smith on March 29th, 2014.

Younger readers may not be aware that World War II games were once like zombie games are today. Everywhere you looked, Allied soldiers were planting satchel charges and running through the bombed-out ruins of once-picturesque French villages. Over 85% of games released between 1999 and 2004 featured an Omaha Beach level. Enemy Front looks like it may take us back to that time. The opening of the trailer caused a smile to flicker across my face, which is a wholly inappropriate reaction when faced with depictions of horrific warfare. But it looked like a return to the original Call of Duty games. Soon, the explosion count rises until almost every bullet seems to hit a self-destruct button.

Friendly Rear: Enemy Front

By Jim Rossignol on November 18th, 2011.

City Interactive have sent word of a new “gritty” FPS called Enemy Front. They explain: “Enemy Front is the realistic tale of a hardened soldier dropped behind Nazi lines to engage in dynamic, diversified missions ranging from quick skirmishes, espionage assignments, and sabotage activities.” The game is being developed jointly by studios in UK and Poland, and is designed by Stuart Black, who worked on the popular console manshooter, Black. It’s using CryEngine 3, which apparently allows “fully destructible maps that reflect the damage from every bullet fired and every grenade tossed”. So that sounds handsome. I’ve posted three more screenshots of angry or dying soldiers below.

Enemy Front will shoot Nazimen in 2012.
