Space Demo! Space Video! Arvoch Alliance

By Alec Meer on November 18th, 2011.

we break for nobody

It’s all been dragoning and mining and dildo-waving and warfaring this week, so let us not forget that there are many other places videogames can visit. Arvoch Alliance, follow up to the Evochron games, purports to be “the definitive 3D space combat game.” I do like a bit of space combat, although all the talk of Newtonian physics and an incredibly elaborate targeting system has me immediately worried I may be fluffy for this one. Find out for yourself though: a svelte 250MB demo is out now, as is the full game. But what does it look like, a man perhaps once bellowed in mild confusion at his cold, unresponsive monitor? It looks like this, silly.

Also In Space News…

By Jim Rossignol on May 20th, 2010.

whooooosh, etc
The Elite IV piece reminded me that the latest version of Evochron Legends just came out. Not many changes in this version, but I thought it was worth mentioning because this is a game that actually includes a lot of the stuff people mention when they ask for a new Elite game, including the capacity for multiplayer in a freeform universe – a feature that we don’t often get to see in action. Anyway, the full-game installer acts as a demo so you can check it out.

Man, I fancy a big old RPS game of this. Let’s get our Warband explorations up to a gallop first, though, eh? Sign thee up.

Latest Evochron Legends

By Jim Rossignol on September 11th, 2009.

Ooh, I’ve just noticed that there’s a new version of Evochron Legends out. The 1.128 update for StarWraith 3D Games’ space combat and trading game contains only minor tweaks, but I need little excuse to link to this excellent space adventure. If you’re the kind of gamer who wistfully yearns for open-ended space games of yore, then this is likely to be what you’re looking for. Unless you play it already, in which case you’ll know precisely why RPS recommends this particular corner of the gaming universe. There’s a demo on the site, which can be unlocked to get the full game. I recommend you go try it.

Interview: StarWraith On Evochron Legends

By Jim Rossignol on March 11th, 2009.

One of the starriest corners of the PC space gaming universe has been cultivated by just one man: Shawn Bower of Starwraith 3D Games. Mr Bower has been making games for years, and has slowly graduated into impressive free-form space sims with the Evochron series. The most recent game, Evochron Legends, has a recently released demo, which I recommend that you go play. After the jump we talk to him about his epic indie project, and hear about the brain-mulching scale of Legends’ freeform, multiplayer galaxy.

Evochron Legends Demo, Freeform Space Sim

By Jim Rossignol on February 6th, 2009.

StarWraith 3D Games have announced the launch of their new space game, Evochron Legends, along with a 50mb demo. From what I’ve played so far it seems a little rough around the edges, but the scope of it is quite startling – a full freeform universe with Elite style combat, complete with vast space stations and planetary surfaces. That combat does work, too, allowing you to go hurtle around in zero-G dogfighter combat. It’s time to break out the joystick and/or gamepad. The demo can be unlocked into the full game for $25. Trailer after the jump. (You’re going to want to take a look at this one, I suspect, as it shows off those planets and larger space structures.)
