F.3.A.R. has leapt into our lives with a butcher’s hook in its hand and a glint of innovative asymmetric co-op in its eye. But does it chill the blood, or simply apply a damp rag to our fevered brow? Allow me to turn dramatically to the camera and tell you Wot I Think.

Byte vs Brick: This Week’s PC Charts
By Alec Meer on June 27th, 2011.

I KEEP saying I’ll do this regularly, but something about numbered lists makes me curl into a tiny ball and weep for mother. Anyway, let’s do it this week and maybe I’ll be a better boy again next week. Here’s the top ten best-selling released PC games on Steam last week, in comparison to the top 10 at UK retail. As always, there are some verrrry interesting variations, which have much to say about both Steam and retail’s own peccadilloes…

RPS Asks: Cloud Gaming = PC Gaming?
By Alec Meer on June 22nd, 2011.

Pay attention, students – here’s your homework for today. Cloud gaming services such as OnLive and Gaikai: discuss. They’re on the rise, and approaching the point where they’re not just a fascinating gimmick but a viable way of playing high-end games at reasonable graphical quality. But what do they mean for PC gaming? Indeed, can they be considered PC gaming? And most of all – how seriously should we, and you, be taking them?

F.three.A.R. “Soul King” Multiplayer Trailer
By John Walker on May 23rd, 2011.

I know you. I’ve seen you around here before, right? You’re that person who wants to see a FEAR 3* multiplayer trailer for the Soul King mode. I knew I recognised you! Come on in.
FEAR 3 is Afraid Of Being Released Just Yet
By Alec Meer on April 27th, 2011.

If you were planning on being either a Pointy Man or a ton of Fettel this time next month, make a sad face now. The third full game in the now long-running series about man-shooting and women-fearing has backed down from its planned release on May 27, for reasons we may never know. Although the line (as given to OXM) is so “more time can be spent on optimisation in order to provide the best experience possible.”

Pregnant With Fear: F.E.A.R. 3 Story Trailer
By John Walker on March 30th, 2011.

FEAR 3, they say, is going to have a story. Let me guess: annoyed girl makes spooky things happen to a man? Well, you can see just how right I am by watching the new story trailer below. I’ll watch it now…
Attack Of The Gloom: F.E.A.R. 3 Screenshots
By John Walker on February 3rd, 2011.

F.E.A.R. 3, as Monolith still insist on naming it, is out at the end of March. The March Of A Million Games, as I will now start calling it. Copyright. Trademark. Patent. But what, you scream at the sky, does it look like? Well, if you’ll make your way downstairs to the creepy, poorly lit basement, you’ll find eleven new creepy, poorly lit screenshots.
Reality Bites: F.E.A.R. 3 Almaverse Trailer
By Quintin Smith on October 1st, 2010.

I like posting F.E.A.R. trailers on RPS, and I like it because it allows me to make fun of the game without the risk of having to play it or otherwise take it seriously. Bonus!
The latest video covers one of F.E.A.R. 3′s more exciting features, that of literally being able to go inside a mad woman’s mind. Alma, the series’ signature crazy psychic, is pregnant, and in her weakened state is losing control of the chilling world that exists in her head (the “Almaverse”). You couldn’t make it up! Except the developers actually did make it up. Not sure how to feel about that.

FEAR 3 Trailer Features Psychic Horror
By Kieron Gillen on June 5th, 2010.

I haven’t been following FEAR 3 – and if you think we’d call it F.3.A.R., you’re mad brand manager, mad – for the simple reason I found FEAR 2 such an empty experience. As such, not knowing its twist, the trailer at least made me smile – a co-op mode with two very different characters (the trad psychic-commando chap and the psychic-horror-chap) is appealing. Ever since Gauntlet – or later the similarly period-heavy SWIV – asymmetrical co-op games have been something I’ve looked out for. Trailer follows.

Co-Op Spooks: F.THREE.A.R Footage
By John Walker on June 2nd, 2010.

Some F.E.A… FEAR 3 footage has appeared, showing the peculiar contrast of the two co-operatively playable characters. One expertly shoots with guns, the other seems to be sucking out souls and casting magics. Which is an unquestionably new approach to the spook-em-up series, this time in the hands of Day 1 Studios, rather than previous developers Monolith. You can see the video below.
What Year Is This? FEAR 3 FMV Giggles
By Alec Meer on May 19th, 2010.

I’m waiting for upcoming shooter sequel FEAR 3 to do something to impress me. Something. Anything. Really I am. Could that something be the below exercise in live-action B-movie banality?
“No.”
You should totally watch it, though.
