Spotlight On Biscuit – Jamestown

By Quintin Smith on June 20th, 2011.

If this is bullet hell, is there a bullet heaven?

I was cheering excitedly about beautiful indie shmup Jamestown last week, and the title’s tagline of “Mars is waiting! Bring your friends!” must be the finest piece of video game marketing of the last ten years.

But a philosopher once said that a video speaks a thousand words, so here’s games commenter Total Biscuit talking you through the game in an even more agitable manner than usual. Face Down Mars Up: Jamestown Released

By Quintin Smith on June 9th, 2011.

Where do the residents of Jamestown drink? At the Mars B-- no I can't do it

“Mars is waiting! Bring your friends!”

We don’t get a great deal of scrolling shmups or top-notch pixel art here on the PC, so I’m very excited about indie title Jamestown: The Lost Colony, which came out just yesterday (Steam, Direct2Drive, GamersGate). It’s set in a 17th century colony on Mars. Your enemies are an alliance of Martians and Spanish Conquistadors. It has up to four player co-op (on the same PC). Do you know, I could only be more excited if it had a soundtrack by a classically trained composer from Santiago, Chile. Oh wait! It does! Tell you what, I’m gonna have a bit of a play and post some impressions after the jump.

Don't stop firing until you see the whites of the high score screen, lads!

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that Jamestown, the upcoming indie co-op bullet hell shooter from Final Form games, has both the best setting and the best catchphrase ever. The setting: a 17th century British colonial Mars. As in, the planet Mars. The catchphrase: “Mars is waiting! Bring your friends!”

I think I’m in love. Check out the trailer after the jump, and many thanks to RPS reader Jim “The Last Biceps” Crawford for sending this in.
