Yay: UK Games Industry Raises £0.5m For Kids’ Charities

It’s so often STRANGLING and SCANDAL on our front page, so hey, let’s post about something rather happy to start the day off. UK games industry collective GamesAid just announced that they’ve raised over half a million quid over the last year, which they then distribute between charities that help disadvantaged and disabled young people. That’s 30% up from last year, and their most successful fundraising ever. Eight charities will benefit from it, each receiving a big old cheque for £70,500.

Shoot Baddies For Good Causes: Tiny Robot Justice Squad

With the notable exception of Judge Dredd, I remain largely unconvinced by the notion that justice can be delivered from the barrel of a gun. Still, I do think robots are rather nifty, and charitable causes are usually hard to argue with, so I’ll make another exception for Tiny Robot Justice Squad [official site]. Let me just grab the Tipp-Ex and update the list.

As you’ll have already figured out from the screenshot above Tiny Robot Justice Squad is a side-on shooter with platforming elements. It’s currently working its way through Greenlight, so isn’t yet available to buy, but all profits from the game will ultimately go to charitable causes. Read the rest of this entry »

Good Grief: Yet Another Indie Bundle

MAKE IT STOP. But in a way that remains beneficial to charity.

Today I feel like the Sisyphus of games blogging. “You believe you have completed your trial of posting about a pay what you want indie games bundle, mortal? You fool. For now you must immediately post about another one! Ahahahahahaha. Yes, there are worse circles of hell to be in, but I trust you’ll agree this one is slightly annoying.”

Oh well, c’est la news-vie, non? LittleBigBunch – due next week – ups the charity factor, as it’s orchestrated by sterling industry philanthropists GamesAid. And it’s got some pretty cracking contents. Frozen Synapse! Explodemon! Serious Sam Double D! Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee! New Star Soccer 5!
