Kickstarter Katchup – 21st July 2012

Lots more projects in the loser column this week, although the real plump projects are still in the midst of their runs. Hopefully we’ll be seeing a packed winner column in coming weeks. As ever, if there’s a fund raiser for a game you’ve spotted, or you indeed are hoping to make, let me know via my name above. One thing – unless someone changes my mind, I’ve decided to no longer include any “flexible funding” projects, as offered by Indiegogo. They aren’t in the spirit of the whole endeavour, and are essentially temporary tipjars, with too much risk that donated money will reach developers who fall far short of reaching any useful amount. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t a metric ton of projects to peruse below.

Magrunner Mixes Blade Runner, Portal, And… Cthulhu?

Man, that's not fair. Magnets will be so much cooler in the cyber Cthulhu future.

At the very least, I have to give 3AM Games credit for fearlessly dumping all their favorite things into a blender and hoping for the best. Last time I did that, I got a runny soup of pumpkin pie, ice cream, and the collected works of Robert Heinlein. 3AM, though, is calling its thematic Frankenstein monster Magrunner, describing it as “a first-person action puzzle game set in a cyberpunk reimagining of H.P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos.” There’s an eerily Portal-2-esque trailer after the break. I hope the final version is rife with snarky narrations from the squid-shaped End of Days himself.
