The open beta for MMOFPS Huxley is North America only, which means I can’t get my hands on it (without using naughty means *cough*). But anyway it’s, right here. Perhaps some of our North American comrades would like to dive in and then tell us what the deal is? The game is out in the fourth quarter of this year but we still don’t know much about it. Go forth!

Huxley Beta Sign Up: For Americans
By Jim Rossignol on May 8th, 2009.

The beta sign up for long-awaited MMOFPS Huxley has appeared on the game’s homepage. It sits alongside some swirly number things that you can hover over to reveal impressive video-splendor. Space armour dudes look angry. Sadly, you can only currently sign up to the beta if you are a resident of the North American continent. I’ve posted the now-ancient trailers for the game below. They’re probably not representative of how the Unreal-powered shooter currently looks. In fact, few details are known about the game, although the most notable aspects are that it will play something like Unreal Tournament, and support up to 100 vs 100 battles on servers of around 5000 players. Needless to say, I’m fairly excited.

First-person shooty: Huxley In-Game Footage
By Jim Rossignol on June 25th, 2008.

Following on from yesterdays Huxley news we have some actual in-game scenes in a video after the hop. It turns out that it really does look a lot like Unreal Tournament 3… Not that this is a bad thing, of course, but it is going to put some serious emphasis on the rest of its “massively multiplayer” game being something special.
Latest Huxley Cinematic, Ruminations
By Jim Rossignol on June 24th, 2008.

Cinematic CGI trailers are all pretty and everything, but for the purposes of blogging they’re something of a waste of time. I want information, and when we’re faced with the cinematic trailer there’s really not much to go on. Give us in-game, or give us death!
Anyway, German site PCGames has the latest Huxley cinematic trailer up, and it’s rather pretty. There’s not a great deal that we can infer from it, other than people will probably have speed and stealth powers as the game goes on. And that it’s The Reds versus The Blues, again.
After the jump: what we know about Huxley so far.

Brave Old World: Remember Huxley?
By Alec Meer on June 3rd, 2008.

Back in the dim and distant past, anyone who was anyone and had a (for the time) pornographic amount of RAM was playing Planetside – the MMOFPS that was surely surely the bright future of PC gaming. Actual FPS, not vague cursor aiming and damage based on your stats – it was about reflex and precision, and military tactics.
Four years later, we’re not playing it any more. Well, some of you probably are, but we Men of RPS at least lament for a dream lost.
