You may have heard the recent fuss about yet another whistleblowing blog, this time about Valve and IceFrog, regarding the Dota 2 project. With our own problems, we really do try to avoid reporting this sort of arse-blowing nonsense.
But I just received an email from a source, who wishes to remain anonymous, from inside Valve. I really swear I’m not making that up. I’m reproducing it, in full, below. (I think this might also count as the world exclusive reveal of their next game, Fart Cops.)

Yes! A new Valve game. And while we currently have no idea what that game might be, we also kinda do. We know that Valve hired Defense of the Ancients Allstars developer IceFrog, which almost certainly means they’re developing something in a top down, small-unit-tactics multiplayer vein. Oh, and Valve also filed the trademark for DotA, and there was a tweet from a voice actor saying he had fun at Valve “recording for DotA”, but that’s since been removed.
In any case, according to both IceFrog himself and GameInformer, GameInformer will be posting all the details of this mystery project later today. Presumably much later today, when the Americans have woken, bemused and horny, from their enormous beds. Stay tuned.

Valve hired IceFrog, a developer of Warcraft III mod Defence of the Ancients a while back, and since then there have been persistent rumours that they might be making the mod as a full game. This then seemed far more likely with the surprise announcement of Alien Swarm a couple of weeks back, having hired the mod team who made that too. And now a tweet from voice actor Jon St. John seems to confirm the existence of a DotA project.
Jon St. John is the gravel-voiced man behind those Evil Dead-nicking Duke Nukem remarks. If voice actors are being hired on the DotA project, then you have to wonder at the scale of the project. Perhaps Valve will be moved to reveal some news by the leak… Ah ha ha ha.

Hot news from PC-land today, gentletypes. Seems the ever-controversy-free Valve Software have a new project up their sleeves, and one that probably isn’t related to Deads or Teams or Halves. Probably. Turns out they’ve just hired the mysterious IceFrog, the chap who has been developing Defense of the Ancients Allstars for the last couple of years, the huge and influential (see: Demigod) Warcraft 3 mod. I’ve just had confirmation from Valve that his claim he’s off to lead one of their team on a secret new project is true. Goodness gracious me, whatever could it be?
