The First Torment: Tides of Numenera Image

By Jim Rossignol on April 2nd, 2013.

Yes, that’s the first in-engine image of Torment: Tides of Numenera. Go ahead, you can click it for full size. Pretty, ain’t it? That’s apparently “a screenshot from within the bloom”. So that’s nice.

The Torment Kickstarter has a mere three days left on it, and the poor chaps have raised a meagre $3,311,380. Perhaps give them a hand if you can spare a dollar?

Ooooooh pretty
Roll up roll up! We have one man for auction! Cofounder of Obsidian Entertainment, lead designer for a thing called Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2, lead designer on a thing called Planescape TM: Torment. Anyone? Anyone for a designer man? You sir? You ma’am? You look a likely sort for a single player, story-driven, isometric role-playing game. Come on lady, do you like complex and nuanced morality, deep and reactive choice and consequence, and immersion into a new and strange vision? Sounds sexy doesn’t it sir. LOOK AT HIS CRANIUM. Pleasure Without Planescape: A New Torment?

By Alec Meer on December 3rd, 2012.

Despite all the talk over the years, I think we’d all long ago given up on there ever being a proper, official, original team sequel to the RPG that can change the nature of a man, Planescape: Torment. However, one of its original devs has expressed his interest in a follow-up and come up with an intruiging way around the licensing issue.

Colin McComb, who played a major design role in PST, now works at InXile, where the bulk of his work on the upcoming Wasteland 2 is now complete. So he’s wondering what grindstone to put his nose to next. “Of all the games I’ve written, the one that I keep circling back to is Torment.”

Wasteland 2 Footage Leaks, Robot Scorpions Roar

By John Walker on September 6th, 2012.

They could at least release another screenshot.

Some sneak has released footage of Fargo’s Kickstarted Wasteland 2. Blurry enough that you know they wouldn’t want it out there, but footage of Wasteland 2 enough that you’ll want to see it. Showing how the Unity 3D engine is being used to create an RPG, it demos how the camera can be pulled into a top-down view for the old-schoolers. Look below.

Origin Sets Up Stall For Crowd-Funded Games

By Adam Smith on May 21st, 2012.

EA understand indie games, they really do, that’s why they have their very own indie bundle. They also understand crowd-funding, or at least they understand that it’s becoming a force that they must reckon with, one way or another. This could go one of two ways. Either Kickstarter HQ is about to be breached by corporate assault drones, or all the profits from FIFA 13 will be pledged to the Kick it Forward scheme. Or perhaps there is a third way. Perhaps EA will waive its cut of sales on Origin for 90 days if the game in question was crowd-funded.

Choplifter HD Next Week, Steve & Duke

By Jim Rossignol on January 7th, 2012.

IneXile’s Choplifter HD was supposed to have turned up in the Autumn of last year, but rather dropped off the radar. Now though they send word that the game will appear on 10th of January for digital download. They explain: “In Choplifter HD, players take control of a variety of helicopters armed with a number of offensive capabilities so they can swoop in and make daring rescues in hot zones. The game features more than 30 missions ranging from straight prisoner extraction to dropping off saboteurs that blow buildings sky high to saving survivors from viral outbreaks. Pilots must bank, hover, touchdown, and sometimes even shake loose pesky zombies hanging from their choppers.” You can also attempt to rescue characters like Duke Nukem and Steve from Minecraft, as you can see in the two bizarre “cameo” videos which I’ve posted below.
