Jagged Alliance: Reloaded Alpha Footage

By Quintin Smith on April 14th, 2011.

Are they turn-based, or are they in fact simply good at standing very still?

My inside man over at french strategy gaming site Cyberstratège has sent us a link to some alpha footage of the 3D remake of Jagged Alliance 2, previously known as Jagged Alliance: Reloaded and now calling itself Jagged Alliance: Back In Action. You can watch the previously turn-based men with guns do their slightly more real-time thing here and check out the game’s official site here. Thanks, inside man! But you must consider coming outside one of these days. You’ll get a vitamin D deficiency.

Hmm: Jagged Alliance 2 – Reloaded Details

By Jim Rossignol on November 10th, 2010.

Some details are emerging about the new Jagged Alliance game. It seems that the devs have elected to move on from the traditional turn-based game, and produce something in real time. In a post on the BitComposer forums they explain at length:

The “Plan & Go” system removes the turn-based structure. If the player wants to react to an incident, he can pause the game at any time or allow the game to pause automatically by carrying out a particular activity (e.g. if a mercenary has run out of ammunition).

Not exactly an XCom level move, but I can still sense the sceptical sighing of the original community.

Jagged Alliance 2: Reloaded Announced

By Kieron Gillen on August 20th, 2010.

The weekend away in Brighton had already gone awry.

There was a little – though less than I expected, I’ll admit – naysaying about the announcement of Jagged Alliance Onlne. Well, those who craved a more traditional Jagged Alliance are getting it too. In short, it’s a complete re-make with re-done graphics, a new UI and tutorials to ease us into the world of this turn-based tactical-combat game/management combo. There’s some comparison shots from the remake and the original over at Worthplaying. What’s not yet clear is what it means for the previously announced Jagged Alliance 3. Either this is it or there’s still that to look forward to. I suspect (and hope) for the latter. And – to state the obvious – I suspect there’s many people reading this who’d kill for a X-COM: Reloaded style remake. C’mon 2k! Do both!
