Out Of Exile: Avernum 2 Crystal Souls Out January

By Adam Smith on December 17th, 2014.

Your friendly neighbourhood Spiderweb is at it again. We missed the original announcement of Avernum 2, which is the sequel to the remake of the expanded remake of 1995’s Exile: Escape From the Pit. I played the original back when I was a rebellious young isometric RPG lovin’ teen and John had a jolly good time with the first part of this rebuilt series back in 2012. Plot-wise, we’re in Empire Strikes Back territory:

Now the Empire will have revenge. They have invaded Avernum, taking cave after cave, destroying your people. Your land needs a hero, and it needs it now. If you can’t find a way to stop them, and soon, you are all doomed.

Lawks.

Avago: Avadon 2 – The Corruption Is Out, Plus Demo

By John Walker on November 1st, 2013.

Spiderweb’s Jeff Vogel has been making RPGs for twenty years, but I only caught onto them a couple of years back. But my tardiness doesn’t dampen my enthusiasm to learn his new game is now out. Avadon 2: The Corruption, the sequel to 2011’s Avadon: The Black Fortress, is out today. And it promises lots of improvements over the last, already very decent game, based on player feedback.

Interview: Jeff Vogel On Bundles, Graphics And Pessimism

By John Walker on July 17th, 2013.

Jeff Vogel is the man behind Spiderweb Software, the studio that recently celebrated its twentieth anniversary of creating rich, deep RPGs. You might also be surprised to learn whether he’d opt for flashier graphics if he could.

The Monster Mash: Geneforge Saga

By Adam Smith on December 20th, 2011.

One of those screenshots that is Kryptonite to some and Lois Lane to others

On one level, this post exists to inform of a fantastic deal on that thar Steam, however it’s also the first time we’ve mentioned that the games in question have appeared on Steam at all. They are the Geneforge Saga, five RPGs created by Spiderweb Software between 2002 and 2008, although they feel as if they could have been made between 1992 and 1998, with their turn-based combat, isometric graphics and enormous amounts of questing and freedom. The Geneforge world combines traditional fantasy tropes with monster-making, leading to all sorts of choices and ethical dilemmas. Steam is currently offering these five massive RPGs for £8.49. There are also sizable demos over at Spiderweb’s site.

Wot I Think: Avadon: The Black Fortress

By Richard Cobbett on May 27th, 2011.

And if I didn't have to fit in this single square, I'd crush you for your insolence right now!
Avadon is Jeff Vogel’s latest RPG; a roaring saga of dark politics and glorious face furniture. It’ll give you hours and hours of questing… but will it show you a good time as you slay giant spiders and screw with the fate of nations? Well, let’s see Wot I Think…
