Weather Warcast: Elements Of War Gone Gold

I knew the weather was up to something.

Elements Of War, which we briefly mentioned last year, has gone gold and gained a release date. April 12th in the States, and then silence. But still nothing so grown up as a website. Apparently wanting to know the relationship status of other games, however, it does have a Facebook page. (Come on folks, this isn’t professional.) The game sounds intriguing – it’s an RTS in which you wage war with weaponised weather. Or “WWWWW” as I call it.

Presi-Dented: Tropico 4 Delayed, Trailer

They don't like it when foreigners laugh at their tiny benches.

In the unlikely event that your plans for the summer revolved around the release of the as-yet undetailed Tropico 4, I am so sorry. The game, which was scheduled for Q2 this summer, has slipped to August. On the plus side, there’s a trailer! On the down side, the trailer shows very little. Urgh, this is all too rollercoastery for this early in the morning. I feel a bit sick.

Patrician IV: Rise Of A Dynasty Announced

Snow is what happens when God leaves a tissue in the tumble drier.

RIGHT. Kalypso’s announced an expansion for Patrician IV. I’m struggling to concentrate here as I’ve just found out that Kalypso are based in Worms, Germany, which is such a messed up name that I couldn’t have invented it if I tried, but I’ll soldier on. Rise of a Dynasty will add a new co-op mode, six new scenarios, eight new missions and all sorts of smaller improvements, including the chance to “interact with individual citizens to gauge the populace‚Äôs attitudes and concerns”. Presumably so you can ask the weird banana guy what he’d like to see in your merchant caravan and end up with thirty tons of bananas rotting in the city docks. Full press release follows.

Dungeon Peeker: Dungeons Trailer

A dungeon.
Dungeon-keeping dungeon-based dungeon game Dungeons has a new trailer out. We’ve put in the dungeon, below. Dungeon! Dungeoning aside, it’s looking pretty good. If they can get that oh-so-knife-edge balance right to produce the kind of continuous challenge we came to expect from… other games in a similar genre, then it could be good. Hell, you could help that happen, if you sign up for the ongoing beta test. Why wouldn’t you do that?

We also have a release dungeon: February 2011.

The Last One To Know: The First Templar

wuh oh
Hmmph, the instruments must be playing up. I somehow didn’t get a proper reading on The First Templar which was announced earlier this year. It’s a sword-based Medieval-dude-ending experience from Haemimont Games, whose name you might recognise from Tropico 3 and Grand Ages: Rome. A bit of a departure then, from management to third-person action. (I spent a long moment there trying to come up with a “management to man-rage-something” joke, but it just couldn’t happen.) It’s the story of the Holy Grail, apparently, and that involves co-op melee action, stealth kills, ogres, and all sorts of other third-person violencing possibilities. Possibly worth a look.

I thrust a trailer into the bowels of this post, killing it dead.

European Union: Patrician IV English Demo

Oh no! This screenshot is stuck.

One Mr Bastock informs us that following the release of the German demo there’s a PC version of the September-releasing economics game demo available on Steam. You can totally download it now. Or later. Or earlier, if you knew about it before we told you. Go demo! Go demo!

EDIT: This is interesting. The demo was up there earlier and now appears to have been removed. We’ll update with further – er – updates.

Banking On It: Patrician IV German Demo

I was thinking of some kind of Stephen Merchant gag, but just gave up.

A micro choose your own adventure. 1) Are you very excited by the Patrician IV? If yes, go to 2. If no, go to 5. 2) Do you speak German? If yes, go to 4. If no, go to 3. 3) Do you care enough about Patrician IV to deal with the fact the demo isn’t in a language you understand and you figure that you can get by just clicking stuff randomly? If yes, go to 4. If no, go to 5. 4) There’s a 700Mb Patrician IV German demo out you can download. Woo! If you’re excited enough to just go and get it now, go here. If you can’t remember what it looks like, go to 6. 5) Go Sumotori! 6)

In League: Patrician IV and Patrician Online

The Medieval trading business is going to be well catered for in the coming months, as Patrician IV (see trailer below) is out next month, and Kalypso have – in partnership with Gamigo – also just announced Patrician Online. They explain: “The browser-based game, which is planned for 2011, will be based on the well-known trading simulation series The Patrician. Thousands of players can experience the glory days of the Hanseatic League and build up their own trading empire. The focus of the game will be on trading goods between players and creating effective production chains.”

My production chain is particularly effective. That’s what I tell the ladies, anyway.

Tropico 3: Dictate Your Thoughts

No screenshots yet.

Here’s a story that got lost in our weekend of commenty madness. Reader John reminded us it was announced on Friday that Kalypso, a publisher of Sins of a Solar Empire and Gal Civ II, had acquired the rights to the Tropico series from Take 2. The consequences of this being the declaration that there will be a Tropico 3.

To be developed by Haemimont Games, the Bulgarian studio behind Glory of the Roman Empire and Imperivm – Great Battles Of Rome, they’re currently suggesting a Summer 2009 release.
