Behind C&C’s Iron Curtain

By Alec Meer on July 21st, 2008.

I’m faintly surprised to discover that the recent Command & Conquer 3 expansion, Kane’s Wrath, was not developed by the folks behind the love-it-or-meh-it parent game. KW was definitely a lesser product than its surprisingly splendid daddy, most especially in its humdrum campaign, plus I hear it was fairly heavy on bugs and imbalances (the latter being the reddest of rags to RTS Angries). But as it chronicled Kane’s most recent resurrection and continued the tale beyond C&C3, it was an important chapter in C&C’s convoluted, comical lore – so surely it needed Tiberium old-hands at the till? Apparently not.

The Staring Eyes of Natasha Henstridge

By Kieron Gillen on April 22nd, 2008.

Which is my way of distracting you from the fact we’re linking to a lot of stuff we’ve written elsewhere today. This time it’s Alec’s review of Kane’s Wrath which PC Gamer have put on their electro-net-commuicato-think masters C&VG. In it he says things like… oh, go and read it. Now… I’ve reviewed it. Jim’s done it for someone else. Walker is clearly never going to play it. Sounds like time for an RPS Verdict.

Eurogamer: Wrath of Kane Review

By Kieron Gillen on April 3rd, 2008.

Ooh, that Kane is a bad 'un.
I’ve just reviewed C&C3’s add-on for Eurogamer. It’s here. It it I start by saying things like this:

By now, the wives of the assorted Command and Conquer head honchos have got to be getting a little suspicious. “So, who have you hired for that new job in the office?” they’ll ask. “Oh, no-one special. Just the best candidate,” says the commander. “Her references were impeccable.” An eyebow twitches. He glances out the window. “Oooh, isn’t the Tiberium lovely at this time of year.” “Is she attractive?” “Well… if you like that kind of thing. Could do with a few square meals, of course.” “She better not be another sex symbol, Mr Commander!” “Is that the time? I need to get to bed.” “I’m going to Tank Rush all over your Tesla Coils, mister.”

And eventually get around to talking about the add-on. No, really. Oh – warning. There’s some Gillenisms which will be fixed when Tom gets back from his adventures. Until then – er -use your imagination.

Spore and Dead Space At SCI-FI London

By Jim Rossignol on March 18th, 2008.

Electronic Arts are sponsoring the SCI-FI London film festival at the Apollo West End theatre, which runs from 30 April – 4 May. The interesting part for us, however, is that Mass Effect, Command & Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath, Spore, Boom Blox (Spielberg’s Wii thing), and Dead Space will be playable at the event. Man, there’s going to be a fight over that Spore booth. Find out more about the science fiction bonanza (which includes a load more than videogame promos) over here. And I might see you there.

Take a look at this bonkers unit trailer for the forthcoming C&C expansion, Kane’s Wrath. And RTS developers, if you’re reading, more insane units like this, please:

Kane’s Wrath Trailer

By John Walker on January 24th, 2008.

Look, I’m out of my depth here, but are people really buying the Command & Conquer 3 add-on because they’re desperate to know what happens next in the cheesy-fun-time soapy story? Surely the appeal is the old-school strategy, while the FMV sequences provide dumbo morsels of entertainment between the reason for playing?

I guess I’m wrong, as EA are choosing to market Kane’s Wrath like this:

Gametrailers… our thanks IS NOT DEAD!

Gameplay footage? Meh. Mr Baldy’s in a grumpy mood! Oh, and her out of Species.
