Holy Sale: Warner Steam Bundle Is A Bit Good

By John Walker on December 20th, 2011.

The Joker loves a bargain.

Edit: We’re reading below that lots of regions outside the UK are being charged a really very much larger sum. Which sucks. Valve will always insist prices are decided by publishers, so yell at Warner. There’s also confusion over the inclusion of Arkham City and War In The North – to be absolutely clear, the Warner Complete Pack definitely currently includes those games, whether by design or mistake. It also seems that some regions can’t see the deal at all. The solution: move to the UK.

I’m never quite sure whether posting about the Steam sale is doing mindless promotion for the company, or alerting our readers to amazing prices for games. I’m going with the latter in this instance, because bloody hell, this one took me by surprise. Not boasted of on the front page of Steam’s decidedly confusing sales page (not including the names of the games on sale is perhaps an odd choice) is the Warner Complete Pack. Clearly one of many extraordinarily reduced bundles (19 THQ games for £50, 80 Sega games for £70 for instance), the Warner bundle brings 18 games for £40, and one of them is Batman: Arkham City. So that’s basically “buy Arkham City, get every other Warner game on Steam free.” And one of those is Bastion. And another is the brand new Lord Of The Rings: War In The North. And of course yet another is Batman: Arkham Asylum.

OnLive Silly Sale: Arkham 2, Saints 3 For £1

By Alec Meer on November 25th, 2011.

Non-steamy windows

Cloud gaming service OnLive is banging its drum for new members in the UK again, so they’re reactivated their remarkable £1 offer (which they’re surely making a massive loss on – they must have ton of marketing money stored up). Your first purchase after joining currently costs just 100 pennies, and that includes the likes of Batman: Arkham City, Saints Row 3, LA Noire, Lord of the Rings: War In The North and Deus Ex: Human Revolution. All PC versions, but tweaked for OnLive – which in Arkham’s case means no GFWL. Woo! OnLive has its issues, but I really rather like it – I’ve played quite a lot through it now, and while the experience differs from game to game for a lot of titles on a decent ISP the experience is pretty incredible. Especially if you have the microconsole thingy and are sat back on a sofa – with your face stuffed directly into a monitor the cracks are that much more visible.

Oh, and if you already have an OnLive UK account, that doesn’t stop you from creating a new one purely to nab a game for £1. Repeatedly, in fact – you just need a different email address every time. Snicker.

Middle-Earth Onlive: LOTR War In The North

By Adam Smith on November 3rd, 2011.

"I seeketh demonstrations of Northern Conflict. Be they in this cloud?" "Nay, this is a snowstorm, thou nincompoop."

Wondering whether to buy Lord of the Rings: War in the North? Depending on where you are in the world, you may have that option right now (US), on the 9th of November (EU) or in the distant future of the 25th of November (UK). All sorts of things can aid a purchasing decision, primary among them being our wise words, but few would argue against the use of a demo in addition. There is a demo for War in the North but it’s exclusive to the Onlive service, allowing a 30 minute trial starting from the beginning of the game. It should be available in the US and the UK right now.

Do You Remember LotR: War In The North?

By Adam Smith on October 21st, 2011.

It's definitely The North. There's snow and everything.

In anticipation of its release at the beginning of November (though apparently the end of November for us UK folk), Snowblind have released three new trailers for action RPG Lord of the Rings: War In The North. Each trailer focuses on a different hero: a dwarf champion, an elf lore-master and a human ranger. I always think of elves as ranging, so I was a little confused for a moment, but then I remembered that human rangers are quite the notables in Middle Earth. So, videos of ranged combat, close combat, lots of dodge-rolling and horrid hairy spiders below.

Oi, Remember LOTR: War In The North!

By John Walker on July 20th, 2011.

Oi, are you looking at my bird? She's lovely, isn't she.

A new trailer descends from the skies for Lord Of The Rings: War In The North, the action RPG expected at some point next month. A game we do rather make a habit of forgetting about. But that’s a silly thing to do, since first of all, it’s a large scale RPG and there are still too few of those, and secondly, it’s from Snowblind who once created the fun-if-somewhat-peculiar Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance. They’ve since been doing some rather odd bits and bobs on console, but they’re back, and this time it’s a cross-platform jobbie. You can see the CGI trailer below.

I Forgot About LoTR: War In The North

By Jim Rossignol on February 17th, 2011.

Okay, I have to admit that despite our last headline for this game being “Don’t Forget About LotR: War In The North“, I had forgotten about it. I am the worst. But wait! There’s a new developer diary for Snowblind’s hack and/or slash adventure game, which reminded me, and which you can see below. The devs talk about the fun they’re having making giant metal citadels in which people fight giant metal monsters, and, well, that does seem like it might be fun.

No exact release date for this, just “2011″. So that’s pretty vague.

Don’t Forget About LotR: War In The North

By Quintin Smith on December 21st, 2010.

God, we need more games that deliberately ape bad stagefighting.

I mean it! It would be a tradgedy if you forgot that Lord of the Rings: War In The North exists, because it looks like it might be alright? Who knows. As we can see in the following trailer, the co-operative action game is certainly looking co-operative and actiony. There’s also a new website, where you can read that players will be able to “bloody their axes on a wide range of deadly enemies and traverse both established and never-before-seen locations,” while enjoying “impactful character progression”. Hooray! I hate limp, soggy character progression, me.

Lord of The Rings: War in the North

By Kieron Gillen on August 18th, 2010.

She looks like a fun time.

Going through the Gamecom 2010 trailers, I noticed Lord of the Rings: War In the North, by console Action-RPG specialists Snowblind (Including My Delightful Fiance and Jim’s Delightful Girlfriend’s favoured Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance). And it’s on the PC. This is, unless I’m very mistaken, the first time they’ve brought one of their games onto the PC, which means it’s time to raise a glass to cross-format development and/or throw that self-same glass into the fire (Depending on how annoyed you get by cross-format development). Go trailer!
