Middle-Earth: Shadow Of Mordor Has Assassins, No Creeds

By Nathan Grayson on May 21st, 2014.

I swear I'm not Eziooooooooooooooooooooo

I remember when Lord of the Rings games legitimately excited me. Of course, I was roughly 12 seconds old back then and wanted to grow up to be Legolas (life experience has since taught me that Aragorn is where it’s at and also that far better fantasy literature exists), but there was a time when the prospect of mowing down a million orcs like so many blades of sickly green grass seemed like an idyllic, Shire-worthy way to spend an afternoon. I wondered, then, if Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor‘s latest trailer would rekindle that feeling in me, that wide-eyed reverence of a youth boxed away in the basements of time. Long story short, it didn’t. Kinda made me want to play Assassin’s Creed, though.

Legollum, Legothmog, Legolas: Lego LOTR Confirmed

By Adam Smith on June 1st, 2012.

I always felt bad for you, Cave Troll. You were a captive victim of terrible circumstance.

This is no surprise but confirmation comes that Lego Lord of the Rings will be released in the Autumnal phase of 2012. I was quite disconcerted when the Joker started talking in a video for the next Lego Batman, which looks quite superb, but the trailer for Lego of That Ring goes even further, re-enacting scenes from the film and using the dialogue right in there. I’m not sure I like it and I hope it’s just for the trailer. I like the comedic and intentionally stripped back take on the source material the previous games have presented. Watch and see what you make of it all.

Mods And Ends: Pick ‘N’ Mix

By Adam Smith on October 21st, 2011.

hats give off no heat - SCIENCE FACT

This week, a few mods that I’ve been monitoring but haven’t had a chance to have a proper go at yet. In some cases, that’s because they haven’t been released yet, in others it’s because the hours in every day are sadly limited, and as well as playing games and writing about them, I very occasionally sleep. I even venture outside from time to time, although admittedly not in the current political and meteorological climate. Too chilly. Too bitter. All too real. Onward to fantasy. Preferably with decent central heating.

LOTRO Is Golden

By Jim Rossignol on October 27th, 2007.

The winner of the PC category for game of the year at the Golden Joystick Awards went to, you guessed it, The Lords Of The Rings Online: Shadows Of Angmar! Oh, you hadn’t guessed? Well you’d be forgiven – it’s one of those reader’s votes things, and it seems The Lord Of The Rings Online remains extra specially popular with a huge swathe of the PC gaming populace. LOTRO beat World Of Warcraft: Burning Crusade, Football Manager 2007, Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow Of Chernobyl. It was 2007: The Year Of The Colon.

And here’s an orc, celebrating:

Needless to say, RPS will be holding its own highly sought-after PC gaming awards towards the end of the year, and I’m not anticipating Lord Of The Rings Online doing quite so well in that… I wonder if we should have a Best Peggle category?

In the meantime: are you a LOTRO stalwart? Can you play a virtual lute? Speak up, and tell us why Shadows Of Angmar deserves its joystick.
