Wot I Think: Lost Planet 2

By Jim Rossignol on October 20th, 2010.

Lost Planet 2 came out on PC last week, and I’ve been having a poke about inside its giant alien carcass with a long stick of criticism. It’s a game that earned a fairly mixed reception in console land, but how about that transition to PC? Here’s Wot I Think.

There are certain games that you want to forgive. Beguiling creatures that, despite their flaws, have a pushy charisma that forces you onwards. For all Lost Planet 2′s faults, there was something that kept me going, something valuable and violent, like a box of illegal fireworks. To complete that line of thinking, I should point out that we did end up getting burned.

Monster Munch: Lost Planet 2 PC Released

By Quintin Smith on October 15th, 2010.

This is where you fight a huge worm racing alongside your train. Gamers: Difficult to please.

Lost Planet 2 PC hits shops in the UK today, and will be available on Steam in approximately SIX HOURS (don’t you love Steam?). That’s six hours for you to decide whether to adopt an icy-cool expression of indifference before turning and walking away from the game in slow motion, OR to attack the Steam page, howling like a Mongol warrior and dual-wielding credit cards. The sequel’s a much broader grab-bag of features compared to the first game, and has pretty comprehensive co-op multiplayer, and a greater variety in its environments, mechs and monstures. The PC version also has 3D and DirectX 11 “tesselation”(!).

In honour of my predecessor, I will now retell Kieron’s story about the original Lost Planet that he liked so much he told me three times. Come! There’s a video of Lost Planet 2 in it for you.

Lost Planet 2 Benchmark & Lady Pirates

By Kieron Gillen on August 17th, 2010.

Not a lady pirate.

As well as announcing that Lost Planet 2 PC will be hitting on October 15th, news reaches us that Capcom have released a tech-demo for the game. You can download the 1-Gig thing from here, which includes a DirectX 11 Benchmark (and a non-DX11 one) plus a “gameplay test”. Wait… “gameplay test”. That means it’s just a demo, surely? Well, no. It means there’s a benchmark of a cutscene and a benchmark of some in-game action stuff. Anyway – go gets if you wants. Head over to VG247 to see some grabs or… well, I was looking around for a video to link to the masses of console ones, and hit one called “Lady Pirates”. That sounds interesting. Pirates, who are ladies. So, with no further ado, here’s some lady pirates…

Lost Planet 2 Four-Player Shooty

By Jim Rossignol on March 30th, 2010.

So then: Lost Planet 2 was finally officially confirmed for PC at PAX, even though we’ve known it was bound for the beige box for months. But there’s more: Capcom London have recorded four gamers (presumably dragged in off the street) playing the four-way co-op multiplayer. I know everyone is keen to judge this game based on the fact that Lost Planet was rubbish, but I’m not so sure. What did my head in in Lost Planet was that stupid heat-blob system, and that seems to have been swept away and replaced with more big guns for the third-person action sequel. Anyway, take a look and listen to some guy going “whooaah,” (below) via VG247.

Completely Exciting Lost Planet 2

By Jim Rossignol on March 9th, 2010.

Capcom’s grapple-tastic science fictional shooter Lost Planet 2 is coming out on the console toys around May 18th and apparently it’s coming out on the Windows too, but we’ve not got a date confirmed for PC as far as my investigations are able to uncover. Nevertheless there’s reasons to be excited, which come in the form of giant alien mega-monsters being splatted in constituent gore-chunks by space-dudes who are playing army with fast-firing future-weapons. I mean it: the latest trailer (below, clearly) is hyperbole like they used to make back when I was a boy.

“FULL-SCALE COMBAT.” What. Is. That.

Lost Planet 2 Feat Gears of War?

By Jim Rossignol on January 27th, 2010.

Eh? Apparently mocked up for some kind of Microsoft conference, Capcom’s Lost Planet 2 has just released a trailer – for the shooter now confirmed for PC – in which the snow pirates appeared to be saved by Marcus & Dom (the Ant & Dec of ultra-violence) of Gears Of War, from one of Lost Planet’s mega-beasts. Yep, that happens. Anyway, we’re vaguely relieved by another trailer entirely, which is some demo footage from CES. Stuff explodes. Big stuff. I’m rather looking forward to this one.

Slightly Jiggle: Lost Planet 2 On PC?

By Jim Rossignol on January 19th, 2010.

An ESRB rating has informally confirmed that splendid-looking sci-fi shooter Lost Planet 2 will becoming out on “Windows PC”. The rating description is quite the thing.

The constant firefights are loud and frenetic; the enemy Akrids emit spurts of orange viscous fluid when hit. While male soldiers are typically clad in futuristic heavily armored suits, a selectable female soldier sometimes wears a piece of cloth hanging down the front and back portions of her body; this outfit tends to reveal her buttocks. Players are able to customize her with a bikini, draping chains, and a garter belt; in this outfit, the woman’s breasts will slightly jiggle

I can’t say anything.

Maybe, Probably: Lost Planet 2

By Jim Rossignol on April 29th, 2009.

All signs point to Capcom announcing Lost Planet 2 for PC fairly soon. In fact the big K reports that dev Jun Takeuchi said at the recent Capcom press event: “It is running off a PC now, so there may be something we can announce fairly shortly.” Anyway, a couple of trailers have appeared, and they’re ludicrously spectacular. Watch out, giant slug-lizard magma things, we’re coming for you. (Even if Lost Planet was a bit clunky, this looks splendid.)

Found: Lost Planet 2

By Jim Rossignol on February 23rd, 2009.

We can only assume that Capcom’s ongoing policy of supporting the PC means that there will be a Lost Planet 2 on the deskbox, especially since we had the original Lost Planet. I struggled through the original, eventually deciding I loathed its stupid energy-grab mechanic and annoying boss battles. Still, there’s always room for optimism, and Lost Planet 2′s huge announcement trailer isn’t exactly short on bangs, or funky robots, or jungles. Watch out Crysis! Go take a look, downways.
