Blizzard Acknowledges Diablo III Always-On Acts As DRM

By John Walker on July 19th, 2012.

Blizzard have finally admitted that their useless always-on DRM in Diablo III is partly to prevent piracy. Despite having previously insisted that it was purely to improve gamer experience (oops), in a post spotted by Eurogamer, Blizzard boss Mike Morhaime has pointed out that it does “help us battle” such issues. But then goes on to say that it’s still the best solution, that it’s essential, and while there are “some downsides”, it was “the best long-term decision for the game.”

BlizzBoss Calls BlizzCon Video Unacceptable

By John Walker on November 2nd, 2011.

The most apologetic of all the WoW creatures.

You probably noticed the brouhaha that emerged last week, after GayGamer and, in turn, RPS reported on a very strange decision by Blizzard, to include an outburst many could only interpret as homophobic, during BlizzCon. After one of the less pleasant comments thread RPS has witnessed, and much discussion internet-wide, Blizzard have issued a proper apology. Blizzard “Not Trying To Make A WoW Sequel”

By Jim Rossignol on February 12th, 2011.

Ars is reporting that Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime has spoken a little about “Titan” the recently-confirmed MMO project being worked on by Blizzard. Speaking to some kind of gathering in Las Vegas, he reportedly said: “Without giving away any details, we have some of our most experienced MMO developers, people who spent years working on the World of WarCraft team, working on this project. We’re really trying to leverage all the lessons we learned through the years. Some of which we were able to address in World of WarCraft and others that maybe because of the design decisions we’ve made, you just can’t address. So we’re kind of taking a step back with all that knowledge to make something that’s completely new and fresh. We’re not trying to make a WoW sequel.”

Morhaime said: “To break the mold, sometimes you have to start over.” I wish he’d said “Sometimes you break the mould, sometimes the mould breaks you.” That would have been cooler, although it wouldn’t have made as much sense.

PC “Far From Declining” Says Blizzard Boss

By John Walker on July 2nd, 2008.

PC developers getting together to discuss piracy

Here’s my impression of the games industry:

“PC games are dead!”

“No they’re not!”

“Yes they are!”

I’m clearly the new Rory Bremner. Add another rallying cry to the “No they’re not!” column, with Blizzard getting all Gabe Newell about the nonsense while talking to Eurogamer.
