Peer At Myriad’s Procedural Explosive Prettiness

I’ve seen Myriad [official site] since its earliest prototypes years ago, as my pal Erlend Grefsrud is making it, and I still don’t entirely understand what’s happening as shapes and colours explode across the screen. I do know it’s fascinating and pretty as heck.

As I understand it, Myriad is an arena shmup where destroying enemies changes the level, and you can rearrange the levelbits and levelblobs, and ultimately you want to blow up the entire level in a huge explodeopointsorama then start over. I think. Come see what you make of it.

Kinaesthetically Teasing: Myriad

There are many details about Myriad in an excellent post over at, written by designer Erlend Grefsrud. While describing the workings of his extraordinarily attractive kinaesthetic system-space, Grefsrud has this to say:

You are free, space is malleable, no boundaries constrain you: Make the world, then break the world.

It’s worth reading everything else in the post as well because, while there will be questions remaining, you’ll at least have some context in which to place the wonderful video below.
