OpFlash 2: (Very) Wobblecam Footage
Written by Jim Rossignol on September 29, 2008.

The Firstlook 2008 games event took place in Amsterdam last saturday and a few interesting materials are emerging. One is the Operation Flashpoint 2 presentation which PS3Life.nl have up on their site, and I’ve embedded after the jump. Despite the rather wobbly camera action it does demonstrate the impressive level of detail in the forthcoming soldier sim. As we’ve mentioned many times before, it’s no ArmA, but in that Far Cry/Far Cry2 way, it looks like it might be developing into something really interesting on its own right. Thanks to Nabeel for the link.
Tanks For The Gunneries

Want to see what it looks like when a tank fires in Operation Flashpoint 2? Well, that’s a specific relief, as that’s exactly what the brief video below will show you.

I’m no fan of CGI trailers, but there it is.
26More War: Operation Flashpoint 2
Written by Jim Rossignol on July 10, 2008.

More Operation Flashpoint 2 news! So soon? Why yes: Codies community manager Ian Webster sends word that he’s going to be posting images from the upcoming CGI trailer over on this official forum thread, all afternoon. Meanwhile PC Gamer UK’s Tim Edwards has posted his enormous OpFlash 2 feature up on CVG. He says stuff like this:
The art team’s aim to create an atmosphere of heavy, muted war is best demonstrated in their attention to the impact of violence. Laser-guided bombs and artillery (you’ll be able to call down a limited number of off-map strikes during the campaign) leave the target area devastated, and produce plumes of charcoal thick smoke that climb upwards of 15 storeys, and are visible for miles. Mortars and grenades (yes, they’re included, unlike in previous Flashpoint games) will tear flesh apart. Limbs will separate, and the blood from flesh wounds seep through clothing.

32It’s War, Again: War Of The Wargames
Written by Jim Rossignol on July 9, 2008.

PCGames.de has a bunch of new screenshots from ArmA 2, the sequel to the non-sequel to Operation Flashpoint, by original developers Bohemia Interactive. They sure do look like some kind of excellent war game. But will they hold a candle to Codemasters Operation Flashpoint 2, which has been unveiled in astonishing detail in this month’s PC Gamer UK? Honestly, get hold of a copy of that magazine and suck in the images with your eyes. The words too. The game left Tim from PC Gamer feeling a bit flabbergasted - and with good reason: the Codemasters wargame is setting its sights on some high ground indeed.
Yet I can’t for the life of me figure out who will come out victor in the war of the wargames? Place your bets…
25Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising
Written by John Walker on August 22, 2007.
Codies have announced Operation Flashpoint 2’s full name: Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising.

This is the official sequel developed internally by Codemasters, rather than the unofficial sequel, Armed Assault, from original developers Bohemia. (This is only made furtherly confusing by there having been a Bohemia developed Op Flash 2 for Codies in 2003, set in the 1970s, that never was).
There’s a new site, and promises of a teaser trailer video for all to enjoy. Except of course the moment you try to download it, you’re asked to enter your “Code M” details, or register to their special club.

Codemasters: IT’S AN ADVERT. You’re supposed to force them down our throats, not make us fill in a form declaring our blood type and favourite breed of sheep before we can get access to it. Fortunately, because we press types live on a higher plane, we procured a copy of the one minute teaser from our Sources, which if it genuinely features in-game graphics (and it’s hard to say at this point) then blink, blink, blink - blimey, it’s very pretty. Stills from the video adorn this piece. (It will also apparently be so widescreen you’ll need to play it at the local cinema).
Hopefully this suggests a diversion from the series’ shooting-at-trees gameplay, and will introduce not only dragons (to ride on?), but the ability to cast fireballs from the palms of your hands. Or perhaps more shooting at trees.
