Build Shoot Loot Build: Captain Forever Remix Released

Scavenging my zapped foes’ ships for parts to snap onto my own hulking monstrosity was a lark in Captain Forever, and I like the look of Captain Forever Remix [official site] even more. Not just for that new gorgeous cartoony art style.

The licensed “remix” of the ship-building shoot ‘em up launched onto Steam Early Access yesterday, and I’ll have to pick it up because I can’t shake the feeling it might be the arcade roguelikelike to help stop The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth dominating my thoughts.

Pew Pew: Watch Nine Minutes Of Captain Forever Remix

When Pixelsaurus Games announced last year that they were “reimagining” Captain Forever, the roguelikelike build-a-spaceship shoot ‘em up by Farbs, I didn’t realise it’d look quite so adorable or be quite so, well, video game-y.

A new gameplay trailer shows off nine minutes of Captain Forever Remix [official site] and its gorgeous, bold, and slightly gross cartoon art style. The core Captain Forever kill-loot-build-kill loop still looks ace, but now it’s picked up persistent progression and fancy new items. Come see!

Captain Forever Remix Ft. Deano T & B-Chain [Danny B Cut]

This certainly appears to be quite a different art style.

The song remix: giving us banging new takes on songs we love, banal ‘club remix’ filler for singles, and sometimes smashing the original to pieces. Game remixes are a bit more rare but we have had some real wonders like Pac-Man Championship Edition DX (not forgetting the unofficial squillions made by indies who carefully dodge copyright infringement). Now Pixelsaurus Games have announced Captain Forever Remix, an “officially-licensed reimagining” of Farbs’s fine ship-building space shooter Captain Forever. It’s ace source material, but what’s the remix mixing up?
