The RPS Electronic Wireless Show Episode 24

By John Walker on July 17th, 2009.

It's a picture, on top of a post, all covered in writing, and smelling like toast.

What ho! A podcasting we did go. And a merry old blah blah something. Jim and John squeezed into the RPS telephone box to record a new podcast, where we not only mentioned subjects, but then went on to discuss them. Amongst that which exited our mouth was the nature of open world gaming, easter eggs in The Dig, why Bookworm Adventures was great, and what defines an MMO.

The RPS Electronic Wireless Show Episode 22

By John Walker on July 1st, 2009.

It's a picture, on top of a post, all covered in writing, and smelling like toast.

Well cor and blimey, it’s a new podcast. Sorry about the delay since the last – we all lost our feet, and then were trapped by elephants. Recovered and recompiled, Jim and John spoke out loud into a recording microphone, and now offer the result to the warm folds of your ear. Sat on John’s patio, surrounded by cats and revving engines, we soaked in the warm July sun and chatted about matters of PC importance. Matters such as the nature of previewing, Burnout Paradise, and which playground games should be made for PC.

One Life Left: Goodbye Gordon

By Kieron Gillen on June 23rd, 2009.

Walker like Ste. Kieron likes Ste. Jim likes Ste. Is that the time?

One Life Left is back! Well, it was back last week, but we didn’t mention it, because we like to provoke a kind of brooding loathing between us and them, think of us the Sharks and Jets of videogame discourse. Is tragedy going to arise when Anne Scantlebury falls for Walker? Oh, it surely will. Anyway – we decide to mention it this week, because there’s a PC-related song 44 minutes into it, from the oft-amusing Doyouinverts?. It’s about Gordon Freeman of Half-life fame and you can listen to it here. If you skip forward 44 minutes, anyway. Also, in the spirit of full disclosure, here’s the mail Ste sent us…

Left 4 Dead 2 – Podcast With Chet Faliszek

By John Walker on June 1st, 2009.

Imagine a big banner boasting Chet's name on this too.

In a world exclusive audio interview, Rock, Paper, Shotgun sat down with Valve’s project lead, Chet Faliszek, to discuss the freshly revealed Left 4 Dead 2.

Within is comprehensive coverage of the new game, the new ideas, the new weapons and campaigns and characters and Infected. You’ll find this nowhere else on the internet. It’s still a Rock, Paper, Shotgun podcast, of course, so there’s also plenty of discussion about our mums, swine flu, and Chet’s horror at John’s foul language. Chet talks not only about the new elements to the game, but also gives us some background as to why Valve chose to make a whole new game, rather than expanding upon the original. There’s also information on how this doesn’t mean L4D is forgotten.

Podcast Promiscuousity: RPS On Joypod

By Kieron Gillen on May 20th, 2009.

KFG is a Quarter to Three running gag. I'm Kieron Fucking Gillen, for reasons to complicated to explain. It involves someone being not too bright in their defense of the Club, if I remember correctly.
You may be missing last week’s Alec/Gillen RPS Electronic Wireless Show. It’s just about possible. London transport screwed us, basically, meaning we were unable to get to Quinns house to do it before we had to cook for a crowd of young people. Alec does a mean chicken. However, if you really want to hear me yabber, last night I guest-appeared on the Joypod Podcast to talk about whatever came to mind. Subjects included the Sims 3, not being bored of games journalism, some comic stuff, why developers have reservations about forums and a lot of the usual stuff. And they continue onwards while I retire to make some tacos. Yes. You can get it from here.

The RPS Electronic Wireless Show Episode 16

By John Walker on April 25th, 2009.

It's a logo. Naomi Klein is FURIOUS about it.

Welcome to our first ever sixteenth Electronic Wireless Programme. It’s Jim and John this week, once more gathered in John’s gloomy room to record their completely not gloomy podcast. Under our terrifying wordgaze comes Mafia II, LucasArts anecdotes, Stalker: Clear Sky modding, Zeno Clash piracy tactics, and the comments of Heather Chaplin.

The RPS Electronic Wireless Show Episode 15

By Kieron Gillen on April 17th, 2009.

What do we do to make sure we do a podcast this week, when RPS comrades cannot meet? We turn to Skype. So Kieron and Jim try and talk to each other via tiny microphones and, despite the fact we’re only across the country rather than across continents, it sounds somewhat worse than when we did it with Leigh (You said “Do it” – Ed). Anyway – you can download it direct here, it has an individual net-home and here’s the iTunes page, and you’ll find the running order of this short and sharp podcast beneath the cut. Woo!

The Electronic Wireless: Leigh Alexander GDC!

By Kieron Gillen on March 31st, 2009.

RPS didn’t go to GDC. Leigh Alexander did. So we thought it a good idea to get her on the yap-machine to ask her about her experiences. Bit of an experimental RPS-cast this one, being done over Skype. Will the sound quality be enough for the audiophile RPS listeners? I think it’s okay – did some noise-reduction and leveling which seems to polish it up, though there’s a smidge of drop-out right near the end. Ah, that internet wireless. Anyway – you can download it direct here, it has an individual net-home and here’s the iTunes page, while the full running order – in case you want to skip past the bits where Leigh insists on talking about consoles – is beneath the cut…
