Eternally Yours: Shadow Of The Eternals Returns, Again

By Alice O'Connor on October 31st, 2014.

Don't they look delighted?

‘Tis that dark and fateful day when spirits cause mischief for the living, making us speak in awful stilted ways with words like “’tis”. Frankensteins stomp through the night in search of good shoes for tall people. Draculas commandeer the rail network for their parties. Revenants come back to reclaim their stolen breath. So here’s former Silicon Knights Denis Dyack again, with another new company, trying again to make Shadow of the Eternals, a “spiritual successor” to lovely GameCube survival horror Eternal Darkness. After two failed Kickstarters last year, now he’s planning even more ambitiously to make it a transmedia extravaganza, looking at film and television too.

Errrr: Shadow Of The Eternals Returns To Kickstarter

By Nathan Grayson on July 26th, 2013.

I'm sure she's really evil and all, but does anyone else have trouble taking people with Troll doll hair seriously?

Shadow of the Eternals is the crowdfunding effort that will not die. Instead, it merely crawled into its cold, cashless coffin and emerged after a month of rest, ready to face a new day. It is, one might say, eternal. Or at least, that’s what Totally Not Silicon Knigh– er, Precursor Games is going with. The Totally-Not-Denis-Dyack-led outfit is claiming to have secured a new source of funding, thus allowing it to drop the Eternal Darkness spiritual successor’s Kickstarter goal from $1.5 million to a still rather lofty $750,000. Other things have changed too – and not all of them for the better.

Insanity: Shadow Of The Eternals Crowdfunding Canceled

By Nathan Grayson on June 5th, 2013.

She's not angry - just confused.

Shadow of the Eternals began life in the shadow of its own murky history, and perhaps partially as a result of that, its marathon crowdfunding drive didn’t exactly get off to a running start. And now, as more recent history has suggested is the natural way of things, the Eternal Darkness spiritual successor will soon vanish from Kickstarter – as though a sanity straining illusion or incredibly frightening house plant in the night. But things aren’t as simple as they seem. Apparently Precursor has come across “a host of new exciting opportunities” that require them to kick their Kickstarter back to square one. The Eternals are taking a little time off, but – as their name suggests – they’re definitely not going anywhere.

And Now Shadow Of The Eternals Has A Kickstarter Too

By Nathan Grayson on May 14th, 2013.

Is the obnoxious watermark real, or is it all in your miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiind?

Do you know what the very scariest thing is? No, no, not losing your mind and truly believing that – I don’t know – you always have to sneeze but never can. Obviously, it’s the realization that your multi-million dollar crowdfunding campaign might not reach the golden heights you originally anticipated. Which is not to say that Shadow of the Eternals is a sinking ship, but a hair over $150,000 (of a $1,500,000 goal) in one week is maybe not the most surefire start. And so, “due to overwhelming popular demand,” Precursor has launched a Kickstarter on top of the main drive, and it’s off to… well, I can certainly confirm it’s started.

Nine Minutes Of Shadow Of The Eternals

By Jim Rossignol on May 13th, 2013.

Shadow of the Eternals – which is a PC-based sequel to beloved 2002 horror game Eternal Darkness – is certainly raising a few eyebrows across the internet with its crowd-funding terms. Such commentary might well prove adverse for its prospects. Nevertheless it has already raised a chunk of its $1.5m goal, and there’s nine minutes of footage from the game now available to watch, as you can see below. Things get icky at around the seven-minute mark.

Eternal Darkness Successor Headed To Kickstarter, PC

By Nathan Grayson on May 4th, 2013.

Reality is a fragile thing. You might, for instance, be strolling through your house late at night, only to pause in paralytic fear, certain you saw some darkness-wreathed specter out of the corner of your eye. But then you blink away the fuzzy confusion, and all that remains is a gently wafting potted plant. Or your pet cat. Or a scattered flock of bats where a Dracula once stood. That was the basic idea behind Gamecube horror classic Eternal Darkness. What’s real? What’s not? Is the game totally fucking with me right now? Did it just delete my save? So naturally, I find spiritual successor Shadow of the Eternals’ presence on PC a bit dubious. I mean, it’s a bit too good to be true, if you ask me. Look, I’m gonna go poke it with a stick. If I don’t come back, it was probably actually a giant tarantula with my own face for eyes, hypnotizing me with endless chanting of all my greatest shames. So yeah, fair warning.
