Kalimba Concept Art: Floating Islands And Totem Charts

The concept art of Kalimba

I liked the art style of Kalimba so much I asked Press Play if they had any concept artwork I could peer at. I’d like to do that more with developers and their games – “Hey, gimme that sketchbook!” They did and here it is for you to examine and enjoy too – there’s also a level design gif*. I promise I’ll shut up about it now:

*gif is a little over 1mb, dearest mobile users

Wot I Think: Kalimba

What a lovely totem pole. It would be a shame if an evil shaman came and messed it up...

Kalimba is a delightful game. Bright colours, tight controls, platforming, animals with accessories… Developers Press Play basically laid a Pip trap and waited for me to blunder into it.

You play as a shaman, attempting to rebuild her protective totem pole after it’s destroyed by an evil shaman. The good shaman has also been destroyed and thus must resort to manipulating objects with her spirit. These objects are two differently coloured pieces of totem pole and by controlling them simultaneously you can solve puzzles and progress through zones, collecting the errant pieces of your pole as you go.

Pole Positioning: Initial Thoughts On Kalimba

Chill out, purple totem. What could go wrong?

Kalimba. It’s a lovely word to say and, pleasingly, a lovely game to play so far. I’m working on a Wot I Think but given the game came out yesterday on Steam and the WIT won’t be able to be completed before Monday I thought I’d share some initial thoughts here and now.

Kalimba [official site] is a puzzle platformer (initially on console) where you control two coloured pieces of totem pole, moving them about simultaneously in order to solve problems and reach the larger totem piece at the end of the level.

Dolphin Head Tentacles: Enter the Mind

I'd eat my eyeballs if I had to use Windows 8 am I right haha! bants - Alice

At times I just want to list off a series of descriptions for a game, because I don’t think there’s a better way to sell it. Tentacles: Enter the Mind is about being the horrible black beasty you see above invading the brain of a scientist. A scientist who’s obsession with cute has driven him mad. Also, his head is a dolphin. While within, and I quote directly from the developers Press Play, you will “explore [his] libido” and eat the eyes of the beings now living in his brain. His dolphin brain. Based on that screenshot, you’ll even get to wear cute hats! If you’re not excited, I just don’t know how to make you happy any more, but maybe this trailer will do it.

Line-up: Max & The Magic Marker Demo

Not as magic a marker as something I've just thought of.

Originally a Wiiware game, I notice this drawing/platformer is now on the PC. You can get the demo from here and then consider buying it, for cash money. With me getting seethingly angry with a Jean advert yesterday, I can’t help but think that someone should do a drawing-style game with an adbusting motif. Take that one, developers. Make it so. Until then, a trailer staring Max and the magic marker, follows…
