Gotham City Imposters Imposes On Feb 8th

He's the gnome we need.
This is what happens when you get busy. I did not know that Gotham City Imposters, Monolith’s inventive multiplayer FPS where players are copycats of Batman and his various villains, has a defensive gnome that tazers people. Where I was and what I was doing at the time to not know I don’t know, but I now begrudge whatever it was I don’t remember doing. I hopefully won’t begrudge playing the game on February the 8th, and peeping into the beta tactics video below, I don’t think I will.

Ooh! A Max Payne 3 Release Date And Trailer

Renowned photographer Johnny Fraps died taking this shot
Max Payne 3: Bullet Gargles finally has a PC release date. I thought I’d be cool and mark the June 1st release on my calendar by shooting at the date, marking the special occasion with a bullet hole, but then I realised it’s out on the 29th of May in North America. I tried to flip the calendar over with another bullet, but things got out of hand. If they want to follow my gunspree release schedule, Rockstar will just have to release it on June 12th, The Corner of My Monitor, My Foot, and Next Door’s Housekeeper. While I bandage up and shop online for a new identity, distract yourselves with the new trailer they released.

Insane In The Membrane? Cell: emergence

This is in your tummy RIGHT NOW.

You may remember that a few months back we told you about Cell: emergence, the extremely peculiar-looking game from Deus Ex writer Sheldon Pacotti’s indie team, New Life Interactive. The fantastic voyage is a pixelly exploration of cellular defense, that looks equal parts fascinating and bemusing. Referencing classic games like Defender and Missile Command, and alluding to RTS themes, the experimental project asks you to protect a membrane via manipulation of the medicinal voxels. I’d suggest that watching the video below might explain things better, but I’m fairly sure I know less about the game having watched it. It’s something we need to play to get our heads around, and the good news is it’s out on the 9th Feb, via GamersGate, Impulse, Green Man Gaming, Playism and Desura. And there will be a demo on Tuesday.

Gotham City Impostors Arrives In January

Tsk, why release so few if you're going to take such little care?

Gotham City Impostors, the other Batman game, has a release date. It’s the 10th January 2012, which sounds like it’s a hundred years in the future, but is in fact in exactly two months.

This is the sort-of-like-TF2-a-bit online shooter from Monolithic, who suddenly remembered they’re at their best when having fun, rather than being all gloomy and serious. Will we be having fun with this? We’ve no idea yet, because we haven’t played it. But there will be opportunities to do so, probably from December when the beta is “expected” to go live. To celebrate there’s a new sreenshot, which is, er, poorly taken. You can see the full size version by clicking on the pic above, and leave your screenshot-taking guides for not leaving the centre of the image mostly empty below.

Releasario: Lego Harry Potter 2 Out In Nov

Stupid wizard idiot.

Something I still haven’t done, that I was originally planning before Christmas, is to write a WIT for Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4. I know that sounds like a strange game to review long after it came out, and perhaps not quite in the target audience for RPS, but blimey, it’s a brilliant game. Certainly I’m a sucker for Traveller’s Tales’ Lego games, but not without an eye for quality. Lego Star Wars: great. Lego Indy: poop. And as it happens, I can’t stand Harry Potter. But Lego Harry Potter was a level above all the others, not only nailing the regularly repeated formula exactly, but also framing itself very differently. One day I’ll write it, and probably call it a “retro”. Indeed, I could time it with the release of the next game in the series, Lego Harry Potter: Years 5-7, which Warner has just announced for the 18th November this year. Which is splendid news, even for a boy-wizard-hating git like me.

A Date For A Game Of A Game Of Thrones

I'm not going to chop you. I'm going to chat for 390 hours about my pet dog.

Cyanide’s A Game Of Thrones: Genesis finally has a release date. The RTS set in George R. R. R. R. R. Martin’s grumpy world will be with us this very month, on the 29th. Being a strategy game, clearly I’d have to receive an odd number of bumps to the head to play it, but were I to I would insist on only ever making honourable decisions, no matter how frequently this led to my entire family getting enslaved and murdered and everyone’s heads getting chopped off. Because Boromir says that’s how it should be. Which interestingly is almost something the game offers. You can see some new screenshots below, too.

The Secret World Release Date: April 2012

Ragnar when he gets back to the office.

Oopsie – Funcom’s PR machine has accidentally spat out the big news The Secret World project lead Ragnar Tørnquist was about to announce at Gamescom. The release date will be April 2012, with the game’s beta registration beginning this month, on the 26th.

Magicka Released Date Confirmed, Eek! Soon!

Aw, cute little murderers.

Release dates are not a natural source of comedy. There’s a limited number of jokes you can really get out of such a mundane piece of news. I mean, I even struggled below with the DNF announcement. Although believe me, if I ever get anyone pregnant I’ll be making “release date” jokes for nine solid months. Gosh, it will be so funny. “It’s due for Q3 2013.” “We’re pushing to meet the deadline, going into beta now.” “It’s gone gold!” “Oh, wait, it looks like the baby’s slipped into next week.” “OUT NOW!”

This is not helping in communicating the news to you that Magicka, the dungeon-crawling, spell-casting action RPG from Paradox will be out on the 25th January. Why, that’s in four days! Big Download bring us that news with their Exclusive Hat firmly wedged on their heads. We’ll have a review of the game pretty damned soon too, and I’ve put that funny video from last year below, because I’m nice like that.
