More Retro, Better Rampage: Retro City Rampage DX

By Alice O'Connor on November 5th, 2014.

Revisiting old work is a strange and terrible thing. Personally, I like to imagine everything I write vanishes into a virtual paper shredder after about twenty minutes. Vblank Entertainment, however, have returned to Retro City Rampage after two years to spruce it up with a big free update. They describe Retro City Rampage: DX as “a top to bottom remastering of just about everything”, rebalancing and tuning weapons and missions, adding fancier graphical whizzbangs, and more. It’s due some time next week.

Good GOG: More Silly Prices In The Latest Good Old Sale

By Alec Meer on July 4th, 2013.

…is what someone who works at videogame download service might say. I don’t work at one of those, so I don’t really know why I’m saying it. I suppose I’m generally in favour of the buying of videogames, however. I’m also in favour of videogames being affordable, so the last gasp of mad discounting in the current GoG Summer Sale prompts me to raise a grubby thumb in approval. Brand Theft Auto: Retro City Rampage Out Next Week

By Nathan Grayson on October 6th, 2012.

The trees have eyes. I think? I actually can't really tell exactly what's going on there.

True fact: Retro City Rampage has been in development since the late ’80s. I mean, look at it. To this day, no one knows exactly how it managed to pre-date many of the games it originally set out to parody, but you can’t argue with the sheer history that’s written in charming 8-bit graphics. It has, in other words, been quite a long wait since VBlank first took the wraps off Retro City Rampage. Next week, though, you’ll be able to tastefully array its files on your hard drive or maybe even play it if you’re into that kind of thing.

Nihilistic Entertainment System: Retro City Rampage

By Alec Meer on February 21st, 2012.

Currently getting owners of the PS Vitalite’s expensive knickers in a right old twist, parody open-world carnage game Retro City Rampage will also be careening wildly towards PC with a bloodythirsty look in its pseudo-8-bit eye. Essentially it’s GTA 1, if GTA 1 had happened five years earlier and was a mash-up of locales and abilities from assorted touchstones of the early console era.

See if you can name all the references in the video below! Or just impassively watch it and think ‘yes those are some videogames I recognise.’ It’s not for me to tell you whether to be enthusiastic or not. Unless you think I’m some sort of hideous emotional dictator, the Idi Amin of smiles and tears. Frankly, I’m offended by the suggestion.
