Bloomin’ Elves: Dawn Of Fantasy

By Jim Rossignol on September 30th, 2011.

505 Games and Reverie World Studios are rather pleased with themselves for launching their fantasy MMORTS, Dawn Of Fantasy. A bit of a shame that no-one thought of a decent name for it, but at least it’s looking extremely bloomy pretty. I’m not really precisely clear how it works – I’m going to have to play it to find out! – but it apparently offers both a story-driven quests-based RTS type stuff, and also co-op and PvP modes. Yes, it could hardly be more generic in its setting – “elves, orcs, and men” – but since MMORTS games are so rare I think it might be worth investigating.

Launch trailer belooooow. I’m going to make some tea.

“MMORTS” Is A Real Thing, Honest

By Jim Rossignol on January 19th, 2011.

MMORTS games keeping being talked about by various beardymen, but I can only remember ever playing one, or maybe two? Anyway, they weren’t great, nor memorable, clearly. Reverie World Studios are aiming to change that with Dawn Of Fantasy, which is both beautiful and epic (see trailer below) thanks to judicious use of GRAPHICS. Woo! See how they sparkle.

The game will be released June 3rd 2011, and we’ll play it. You can try to play it now, actually, as there’s a closed beta in progress. Anyway, when I have played it we will say that I have played maybe three MMORTS games, so it’s a real genre now. Okay.

FfffffaaaanTASY! Dawn Of Fantasy

By Jim Rossignol on February 8th, 2010.

Reverie World Studios haven’t exactly managed to come up with the most excitingly original name for their new MMORTS – it’s called “Dawn Of Fantasy” – but other elements of the game give us reason to murmur to each other over the internet, and surreptitiously keep an eye on things in the months leading up to release. Dawn Of Fantasy is a traditional orks vs humans type strategy in the style of the Total War games (so it’s a big old campaign map punctuated with 3D combat), and most interesting of all, it’s going to be a single player campaign and skirmish game with an option to turn it into an online game if you wish. Most recently they’ve revealed elements of the game map and, well, I’m just a sucker for maps at the worst of time, and this lures me in. If this can work as a single player game and an MMO then Reverie will have hit the jackpot. Naturally we’re sceptical that anyone can pull this off quite so readily, but I guess we’ll find out when the game turns up later this year. Slightly dodgy trailer below.
