Developers are always suggesting the best way to get into the games industry is to ‘make something’. Not anything, though. You can’t assemble a day bed and walk into Bethesda demanding a job making Skyrim expansions. No, they mean you should make a game, or a bit of a game, or something gamey. If you made a game about a day bed, maybe you’d have a chance? That’s what Stephen Orlando did when he made Treasure Adventure Game, a wonderful and free adventure platformer that was all game (but not about a day bed). He’s since been working on Treasure Adventure World, a remix and remake of it that will definitely place him in the games industry if you buy it. There’s a ‘help me fund it’ page here. Remember Treasure Adventure Game? Come now, don’t make me roll up a copy of Adam’s brief yet glowing appraisal and beat you over the nose with it. You have a very attractive nose. Since I cherish its Greek-sculpture-like beauty, I suppose I’ll eschew punishment and just tell you it was a peaceful, pleasant explorer jetted with jolts of high-seas derring-do. TAG was, however, also a labor of low-budget love, so it took a hit or two in the scope and scale department. But no more. Robit and Chucklefish (two gaming companies, in spite of names that suggest they’re actually a comedic noir future mystery-solving duo) are gutting TAG, starting from scratch with a gorgeous new art style, and rechristening the whole thing Treasure Adventure World. It looks quite scrumptious. Have a gander after the break.

Gold bullion! Pieces of eight! Booty in unimaginable quantities! All these things and more await in free open world platformer Treasure Adventure Game. It’s a rather self-explanatory title, like if David Cameron went by the name Laminate-Face Eton Man or Richard Branson was simply called Money Beard. TAG, as I’m calling it, is the first release from Robit Studios, which appears to be a fellow by the name of Stephen Orlando. There’s a downloadable beta available now and the finished release should be available next weekend. For free! The simple aesthetic and emphasis on exploration remind me of Knytt but there are plenty of baddies to fight as well. It says so right there in the trailer, which is buried beneath the X below.
