Hands-On: Hawken

By Adam Smith on August 20th, 2012.

Stealthmech descends

If anyone was keeping count, they’d probably tell you that I died a lot more often than I killed at Gamescom. Whether having my head knocked off by a hammer or huddling around a fire and failing to survive the Eastern Front, I spent a lot of time meeting makers. Let it be known, however, that I was actually quite good at Hawken, but that’s not the only reason I’m an admirer of the multiplayer deathmech delight.

Decimal Kill ‘Em All: Binary Domain On The PC In April

By Craig Pearson on March 20th, 2012.

Robotic lamppost of doom
Hold on, just upgrading my firmware from ‘I really want to play Binary Domain‘ to ‘I’ll get to play Binary Domain in April’. It’s patching… ah, that’s better. As a robot disguised as a human, I’m thrilled Sega’s third-person shooter about shooting robots disguised as humans is being ported over to the PC. Sure the third-person shooter might have cool things like robots that keep coming at you when their limbs are blown off (like Uncy Terminator), this guy, and voice control, but it also has the consequence system that responds and to the way you play. I know humans, and you lot are saps: by the time you are done with Binary Domain, us Hollow Children will have you right where we want you. Pretty soon a human servant will be serving me chilled glasses of diesel by my lava pool, and feeding my kitten-bot old computer mice. Use your puny human eyes on this video below, for it is the first step on the road to binary domination.

By Alec Meer on May 8th, 2008.

Inhuman After All: ROBOT! ROBOT! ROBOT!

By Kieron Gillen on January 15th, 2008.

HUMAN! HUMAN! HUMAN! HUMAN!

I’m currently working on a preview of IGF finalist World of Goo – short version: pre-order the thing, if only because you get a profanity pack(tm) with it – and find myself wandering 2D Boy’s website. I discover that they’ve lobbed online a 7-day prototype of something they were playing around with, the pithily titled Robot And The Cities That Built Him. While they make masses of caveats – it isn’t finished and was designed while listening to Bette Middler on a loop – its based around a neat little mechanic where you’re managing the upkeep, upgrading and growth of your robot army while they go about crushing and destroying as is a robot’s wont. It’s certainly worth smashing your way through the first thirty cities, before the game runs out of content. Also, as always: ROBOT! ROBOT!
