Remind Yourself Of Rodina’s Space Combat And Computers

By Graham Smith on July 1st, 2014.

Not quite No Man's Sky, but it'll do.

It’s been a while since we last checked in with Rodina, in as much as we haven’t mentioned it on this site at all since Craig noted the release date late last year. That’s a shame given that we live in a world of in-progress but unreleased or expensive space sims, and Rodina is a space sim that’s unfinished but i) out now and ii) has a demo and iii) has a pay-what-you-want business model. To rectify the oversight, I’ve played it a bit, and popped a trailer and some progress updates below.

Rodina’s Release Date Revealed And I Am Relieved

By Craig Pearson on December 4th, 2013.

Now that X Rebirthhas been exposed as a massive black hole of fun, and following a state mandated period of mourning, I’m back on the hunt for the next good space game. Let’s see… there’s Elite: Dangerous: the first closed beta combat tests that should start this month, which is exciting, but it’s only available to the people who pledged £200 in the Kickstarter/pre-order push. Star Citizen is looking as pretty as ever, though access to the dog-fighting alpha is now looking unlikely to occur this year. Enemy Starfighter will definitely get a big hug from me when I play it, though that’s unlikely to be for months. Ditto for Limit Theory. Rogue System looks like systemic, hardcore space joy, but it also won’t be out for months. Ooh, Rodina! A space exploration and combat game influenced by the likes of Star Fox and The Elder Scrolls. That’s next. And it’s out next week! You’ve saved Christmas!

Rodina’s Combat Is Atmospheric

By Craig Pearson on June 27th, 2013.

You can't take my pie from meeeeeeeee
I am still waiting for one space game to come out this year. Just one. I helped fund Elite: Dangerous and Star Citizen, I’ve put an X over every date of my calendar to remind me there’s a new X game coming out, and I mourned the hobbling of 0x10c in an emotional scene that was just like the end of Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan, though it did get me banished from the polar bear enclosure at the zoo. I am a patient man, but right now I go to sleep weeping for the galaxies I’ve yet to explore, and wake up each day with a black hole in my heart that is just waiting to be filled. I have hope that Rodina, another adventurous space game that’s already impressed me, might break through the atmosphere, scorch the grass in my front lawn as it lands, and welcome me aboard, but it’s yet to happen. There is, however, a nice trailer showing off the combat.
