Do A Bodacious Grind In OlliOlli2, Out Today

I have never felt a greater urge to put on a pair of reading glasses and start smoking a pipe in a dressing gown than writing this. It's like I'm aging in real time. Imagine every word read out by that old blind guy from Game of Thrones.

Because I know what a rad bunch of dudes, dudettes and dudeys you are, I bring news of the release of OlliOlli 2 [official site] on PC. Fully titled ‘Welcome to Olliwood’ it’s the follow-up to 2014’s hottest PC skateboarding sim that let you kick-flip on a dinosaur’s back. This one features just as many mad locations and odd places to grind, with a bunch of new modes, options and variations as well. They’re all laid out in the below launch trailer which my decidedly uncool brain understands roughly 20% of. At most.

Wot I Think: Not A Hero

If Hotline Miami had come into being during a late night session in an British pub, it would probably have emerged into the light looking quite a lot like Not a Hero [official site]. Although its action is side-on rather than topdown, the content is similar – surrealist sprees of violence involving an odd crew of protagonists and countless stereotypical gangland denizens. It’s from the makers of indie skateboarding smash hit OlliOlli and here’s wot I think.

Not Just Yet: Not A Hero Gets Delayed A Week

Bad news, to my fellow PC Brethren who’ve had their eyes and hearts clocked to May 7th as the release date for Not A Hero [official website], that side-on shooter from the dudes behind OlliOlli.

You’re going to have to wait exactly seven additional days before you see that baby, which granted isn’t much of a wait. Just think of all the things you can do instead! Paint a room, think about dogs, and so on.

Side-On Slide-O-Cover Shooter Not A Hero Gets A Demo

The release of a demo for Not A Hero [official site] is wrapped up in a marketing campaign with a load of guff about UK politics and Nigel Farage and immigrants and fake hackings but look, let’s ignore all that. It’s a side-on shooter where you can duck into cover and slide and murder men in cool ways, made by OlliOlli folks Roll7, so let’s set that baffling angle aside and focus on the fact that it has a demo out now and is pretty fun.

The demo’s on Steam (look for the ‘Download Demo’ button on that jumble of a storefront) and Dropbox ahead of the game’s release on May 7th.

Winning The Election One Bullet At A Time: Not A Hero

Bunnies and helicoptors, a lethal combination.

As anthropomorphic animals go, Not A Hero’s [official site] giant time-traveling purple mayoral candidate BunnyLord (no prizes for guessing the species of this guy) is up there with the best of them. His cover-hiding, gun-toting campaign manager, aka you, is a regular old human tasked with taking a tough stance on crime as part of the election run. “Tough stance” here meaning “extreme Hotline Miami-style violence” playing out in a side-scrolling world. Vote for me to get a trailer below.

Skate Or Dinosaur: OlliOlli Grinding PC Next Week

I will call him Barney

OlliOlli is a skating game in which you can grind a dinosaur. And a tank in wartime. And a Japanese mech’s beam saber. And… well, you get the idea. The soundtrack also contains liberal helpings of jazz, apparently. Or maybe that’s just a joke on the game’s Steam page. I don’t know. Point is, OlliOlli looks zany as all get-out, which is exactly what I want from my raditudeitastic wheelboarding adventures. It’s doing a 360 laserspin pop shove-it, skin it, put it in a saute pan for 10 minutes, add spices as needed, cough on it until your natural juices have corrupted the meat, and let sit for a couple minutes afterward to cool onto PC next week. Do something sick (like a great jump or vomiting) past the break for a trailer.

Coverage: Not A Hero Announced

No more heroes anymore

London lot Roll7’s side-on shooter Not A Hero was given a formal announcement and grand unveiling at EGX Rezzed this weekend, perhaps not coincidentally opposite the Hotline Miami 2 booth. Oh, but to compare the two would be lazy. See, while Not A Hero is a point-scoring, man-murdering, pixel-bleeding, die/restart run and gun game, it’s also a cover shooter. Having had a bash myself, I’d say it’s worth keeping an eye on. Read the rest of this entry »

Board To Death: OlliOlli Coming To PC

I haven’t played a skating game since the last Tony Hawk that was actually a skating game rather than a modern American soap opera. The plot synopsis for a skating game should never be more than a thousand words long and it certainly shouldn’t contain sentences like this: “Gaining their approval, he is let into the ranch, and meets the leader of the group, Iggy VanZant, a very rough type guy who isn’t fond of outsiders. He agrees to let him crash at the ranch if he obtains some wood for a half-pipe he is building.”

Thank the skate lords for OlliOlli then, a side-scrolling burst of speed and trickery that pleased owners of Playstation Vital Systems when it was released on the handheld last month. The trailer below is rather spiffy and the PC version will be playable at EGX Rezzed, where developers Roll7 will also unveil their next game.
