Wot I Think: Sacred 3

By John Walker on August 1st, 2014.

Sacred has always been Diablo’s cheeky little cousin. Made with none of the precision or flair of Blizzard’s series, they’ve been bumbling action-RPGs that have attempted humour, mostly missed, and been generic but inoffensive click-a-thons. Hey folks, that’s all about to change with Sacred 3! This game is properly, unambiguously rubbish. Here’s wot I think:

For Goodness: Sacred 3 Anti-Delayed

By Nathan Grayson on May 28th, 2014.

Well this is fun. Once upon a time in ye olde fantasyee land of Ea’rth, Sacred 3 was set to launch at the end of August. Now, however, the latest in a longish lineage of solid Diablo-alikes has moved to the goodship August’s bow because it’s so ready that it doesn’t need no stinkin’ month. But as Eurogamer slyly points out, there is a Diablo-related product coming out that month. So maaaaaaaaybe… but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Fingers crossed for something good, not rushed. New trailer below.

Sacred 3 To Begin Angelically Headchopping This Summer

By John Walker on February 20th, 2014.

After 2012′s peculiar diversion into side-scrolling beat-em-up territory, the long-awaited Sacred 3 is finally properly announced, and due to reach us in the Summer months. And this time out, the emphasis is on co-op.

Is Nothing: Sacred Citadel Out Now

By Nathan Grayson on April 17th, 2013.

HAS ANYONE SEEN MY GLASSES? AND MY EYES?

I’m still not entirely sure how Sacred Citadel emerged from a creative cauldron in the vicinity of semi-esteemed Diablo-alikes Sacred 1 and 2, but I can’t knock a series for having a go at a new genre. And so, while Sacred 3 grows large and strong under lock and key, we get a sidescrolling beat-’em-up with fantastical trappings and a God-of-War-style eye for scale. I do not, however, believe we’ll be tearing that eye from its stringy stalk with our bare hands – aka, Kratos’ version of handshake – as Citadel seems a bit less, er, psychopathic. At any rate, there’s a launch trailer after the break, heralding the off-the-beaten path beat-’em-up’s release. Weird, right? A launch trailer on launch day? Who does that anymore?

Huh: Sacred Citadel Is A Side-Scrolling Brawler

By Nathan Grayson on August 8th, 2012.

Aaaaugh, killing you is the only way I can get this health meter out of my eyes.

First up, a disclaimer: Sacred Citadel is not Sacred 3. If it was, the entire planet would be rent asunder by a volcanic eruption of enraged fans that’d spew out into the streets and converge on developer Southend Interactive’s offices. That’s because it’s a self-described “co-op side-scrolling brawler set in the world of Ancaria,” which is quite the far cry from the Sacred series Diablo-ish ARPG lineage. As a prelude to the in-development Sacred 3, then, it’s a bit of an odd choice. Honestly, though, it doesn’t look half-bad. Different? Sure. But I’m up for hacking and slashing from a side view as well as a top-down one. I am, in that respect, an incredibly versatile human being.
