Industrial Venice: Euro Truck Simulator 2′s Public Beta Patch

By Alice O'Connor on July 10th, 2014.

You adjust that seat.

I imagined Piazza San Marco and the Grand Canal when I heard Euro Truck Simulator 2 would add Venice in the next patch. Perhaps you’d drop film cannisters off at the Venice Film Festival, or communion wafers at St Mark’s Basilica. ETS 2 and I romanticise different things. Its Venice is a city built around docks and industrial estates. It’s a city for people to work in, not for tourists to visit. Roads, not canals. As someone not into Simulating, I’m charmed by this practical view.

If you’d like to drive past Venetian warehouses and breathe in Venetian fumes, you can have a peek as SCS Software have released an open beta build of patch 1.11.

Road To Joy: American Truck Simulator Images

By Adam Smith on May 6th, 2014.

you can keep yer GTA V

When Euro Truck Simulator 2 worked its way into my dreams, I hoped that it might be the first in a convoy of vehicular profession simulators. Sadly, OMSI aside, the so-called simulators that I’ve tried since have mostly mirrored John’s experiences with Woodcutter Simulator 2013. I love the idea of performing tasks that don’t involve guns death and destruction while journeying through a recreation of the real world, or something like it. The beauty of Euro Truck Simulator has little to do with the transportation of goods or business management – it’s a game about driving and watching the world go by. That’s why images of follow-up American Truck Simulator are as exciting as any stills I’ve seen this year. They’re below.

Euro Truck Simulator 2 Multiplayer Mod Enters Open Alpha

By Graham Smith on May 2nd, 2014.

It's hard to take corners like this.

Adam and I are both avowed truck lovers, but thanks to the Euro Truck Simulator 2 Multiplayer Mod we can now pull our big rigs into the same roadside service station for a late night liaison. The mod has been in-development since late last year and entered open alpha yesterday.

Car Crash TV: New Sound Recordings For ETS2

By Graham Smith on November 8th, 2013.

Dream job.

I like Euro Truck Simulator 2 more with each passing day. Last time, it was because the game now has Oculus Rift support. This time, it’s because developers SCS Software have re-invested the profits from some recent DLC back into the game. By recording cars smashing into one another from great heights.

Check out the video of this week’s sound recording session below.

Impressions: Oculus Rift support for Euro Truck Simulator 2

By Graham Smith on October 24th, 2013.

Finally I am Challenge Anneka.

I’ve used the Oculus Rift to fight Half-Life 2′s Combine, to blast through space in EVR, and to stomp around in Hawken’s powerful mechs, but this was the thing I’d really been waiting for. SCS Software just released the Oculus Rift-enabled beta for Euro Truck Simulator 2, and I celebrated by driving from Cardiff to Southampton.

Night Drive: Euro Truck Simulator 2

By Adam Smith on March 13th, 2013.

Manchester to Sheffield, Sheffield to Swansea, Swansea to Stuttgart. I’ve been haunting the highways and low roads of Europe as I aim to build a freight empire the likes of which the world has never seen before. My convoys will convey powdered milk from Berlin to Paris, and machine parts from Edinburgh to Frankfurt. Or, failing that, I’ll just fill my playlist with electronic ambience and watch the world roll past the window. This is Euro Truck Simulator 2.

The Flare Path: A Moth And A Mother

By Tim Stone on June 22nd, 2012.

This edition of Flare Path is dedicated to Gerda Hampson, the SOE agent known as ‘Hawk Moth’ who on June 22nd 1942, charmed her way into The Berghof posing as a Swiss entomologist, and surreptitiously changed Hitler’s personal difficulty setting from ‘easy’ to ‘ironman’. The sly switch wasn’t discovered for two and a half years by which time, of course, there was no way back for the red-faced Führer. Read the rest of this entry »

“Obeying Traffic Rules”: Bus Driver Demo

By Jim Rossignol on July 22nd, 2011.

There’s a Bus Driver 30-minute limited demo out. SCS explain why Bus Driver is so exciting: “In Bus Driver, your job is to transport passengers around an attractive and realistic city. You must drive to a timetable on a planned route, whilst obeying traffic rules, and taking care not to upset or injure your passengers. This makes Bus Driver unlike any other driving game – the experience of driving a bus is very different from blazing through a racing circuit as in most driving games.”

You can imagine how excited I am by the implications of this. It’s not pretty. You can download the demo here.

Euro Truck Simulator: A New Demo!

By Jim Rossignol on June 30th, 2011.

So. Good.
Praise be to the Gods of simulation. Just when I thought there wasn’t going to be any exciting domestic transport sim news this morning, the best thing happens: I spot that there’s an updated demo for Euro Truck Simulator! Yes, it’s the game where you can drive a truck around a miniaturised and truncated Europe, delivering payloads like there’s no tomorrow. If you haven’t played this game in which almost nothing can happen, then you haven’t lived. I’ve posted the trailer below to give you a taste of the truckin’ that awaits.

Ah, today is going to be sweet.

UK Truck Simulator Demo!

By Jim Rossignol on April 22nd, 2010.

Truck simulator! My prayers were somehow answered by the divine forces of actually bothering to look something up after I asked what was basically a rhetorical question… but, yes: UK Truck Simulator has a demo. It’s new! Sadly only a one hour trial, but you should be able to trundle happily around a miniaturised version of Britain for the entire hour. (Pictured: Dover Castle, a Medieval edifice which delivered a strange anecdote about Mel Gibson into my youth. I’ll tell you about it sometime.)

So yes, where’s my MMO that’s basically Eve but with maybe jetpack ninjas versus the titans from Warhammer 40k and some really good emergent strategic stuff, eh? (/Googles)

Hot Wheels: German Truck Simulator Demo

By Jim Rossignol on January 18th, 2010.

Hot hot! That’s right, SCS Software are back once again with their latest commercial vehicle simulator. This time it’s German Truck Simulator, which contains trucks apparently “inspired by real designs from seven major European truck manufacturers, including official license from MAN.” Once again you’ll be driving round a miniaturized version of the country in question, in order to “deliver cargo between 18 major German cities connected by major highways. Pick from over 60 different loads.” Yea, that’s the stuff. Get the demo here.

Extreme Trucker!

By Jim Rossignol on October 2nd, 2009.

No! But yes. Continuing this morning’s transportation theme there’s a new 18 Wheels Of Steel game on the horizon, Extreme Trucker, and it’s almost sexual: “Experience the freedom and charm of a trucker’s life, as trucks of chrome and metal pound the hot asphalt highway.” Man! Check out the extreme environments of the latest American Longhaul below. I’m sure there’ll be a demo along soon, and I, for one, cannot wait.

Euro Truck Simulator Demo

By Jim Rossignol on September 1st, 2008.

And it’s pretty good. I mean it! I know that driving an HGV across central Europe was exactly the kind of activity you took up gaming to avoid, but SCS Software have somehow made a brilliant job of it. It’s about as close as we’re going to get to a really compelling lorry simulator – and that’s why you should play it, right now. The demo is a mere 116mb.
