‘Tis The Season For Humble Bundle And Indie Royale

By Nathan Grayson on December 20th, 2012.

The holidays are a time of indecision. Who should you visit? What ugly, uncomfortable seasonal sweater should you wear? Which deity(s) should you dedicate your hedonistic blood celebrations to (aside from Horace, of courace)? And, most importantly, what will you buy before/after your relatives shower you with socks or rocks or whatever it is that passes for a universal gift these days? But it doesn’t end there. Oh no. There are, after all, 927.45 trillion videogames to choose between, so you may as well just start sobbing and curl up in a fetal futility ball right now. Unless… no, no. That’s crazy. But maybe… no. It’ll never work. Ah, what the hell: bundles! Both Indie Royale and Humble Bundle have new offerings up, and they’re quite tempting, if I do say so myself.

So Many Sams: Indie Royale Gets Serious

By Adam Smith on January 24th, 2012.

On the left, press releases about bundles. On the right, the men of RPS.

How many bundles are there? So many bundles. And here’s another from the folks at Indie Royale. This time it’s what they’re calling a Lightning bundle, perhaps because it falls outside their normal release schedule. These types of bundle will, I believe, focus on one series or developer and for the first it’s Serious Sam. So, what do you get?

LittleBigBunchLaunchesAtLast

By Alec Meer on December 14th, 2011.

Sorry, but can't bring myself to write BIG in capitals every time.

“What did you do during the great bundle wars of Winter 2011, daddy?”
“I posted about them, sweetheart. I posted about them all. I… I’ve seen so much. I’ll always carry that with me.”

We already know about pay-what-you-want charity bundle LittleBigBunch, but until 2pm today we weren’t able to so much as look at its website. Now we can, for it lives and is live. It’s a grand old package of PC games – Frozen Synapse, Explodemon, Serious Sam Double D, Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee and New Star Soccer 5. A pleasantly varied package, I’d say.

Good Grief: Yet Another Indie Bundle

By Alec Meer on December 7th, 2011.

MAKE IT STOP. But in a way that remains beneficial to charity.

Today I feel like the Sisyphus of games blogging. “You believe you have completed your trial of posting about a pay what you want indie games bundle, mortal? You fool. For now you must immediately post about another one! Ahahahahahaha. Yes, there are worse circles of hell to be in, but I trust you’ll agree this one is slightly annoying.”

Oh well, c’est la news-vie, non? LittleBigBunch – due next week – ups the charity factor, as it’s orchestrated by sterling industry philanthropists GamesAid. And it’s got some pretty cracking contents. Frozen Synapse! Explodemon! Serious Sam Double D! Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee! New Star Soccer 5!

Serious Sam: Double D Single Demo!

By Jim Rossignol on October 5th, 2011.

There’s a demo out for insane side-scrolling Serious Sam spin-off Serious Sam: Double D. You can get it on Steam. That will allow you to create your own opinion on the game. If, however, you remain unsure, or were born without vital critical faculties, then you can still read our Wot I Think, which sums up this gun-stacking absurdity rather nicely.

Wot I Think: Serious Sam: Double D

By Adam Smith on September 8th, 2011.

Outtakes from Alice: Madness Returns

Serious Sam: Double D is the side-scrolling indie spinoff to the irreverent FPS series. Sort of like the inverse of a ‘90s shareware sidescroller evolving into an irreverent FPS series, with continued 2D spinoffs. There are scattered pop culture references, gouts of blood and a wisecracking, macho hero. Observe as I try to give you my thoughts without referring to Duke Nukem even once.

Diapers Advised: Serious Sam 3 Trailer

By Adam Smith on September 6th, 2011.

A game full of giant monsters, a screenshot with no monsters at all. Croteam are good at marketing, I am not.

How many trailers manage to accurately convey a design philosophy while also being pretty damn funny? I’ve done some swift calculations on my abaci and mathomancy tells me that the correct answer is this one for Serious Sam 3: BFE. Despite pouring scorn on so many modern gaming conventions, the whole thing is so gleeful that it doesn’t seem spiteful, just completely and incurably insane.

Serious Sam: Double D Is Gun Crazy

By Adam Smith on August 23rd, 2011.

There is a rational explanation for this

Not too long ago, John brought you words and pictures in an attempt to describe the madness of Serious Sam: Double D. Now, Mommy’s Best Games have sent an ambassador forth to describe things in his own words. And he has some footage for us all. It’s trailer time and I’d highly recommend having some tranquilisers on hand for when this one’s done.

Hands On: Serious Sam Double D

By John Walker on July 28th, 2011.

Mmmmmmm, gibbage.

As you already know so well, the forthcoming release of Serious Sam 3: BFE is being accompanied by some specially commissioned indie games based on the Sam license. Already out is the demo for Kamikaze Attack, and coming soon is Serious Sam Double D. We have ourselves an almost-finished copy of that game, so I’m going to describe the first couple of stages to you in things called words and pictures.

First Look: Serious Sam Double D

By John Walker on June 21st, 2011.

That's quite a big monkey.

There’s a lovely promotional initiative taking place for Serious Sam 3. Quintin brought news of it back in March. A few indie developers, whose games Devolver and Croteam enjoy, have been asked to make a game in their own style set in the Serious Sam universe. I’ve had a chance to see one of them running – Serious Sam Double D from Mommy’s Best Games. Vuvuzelators, chimp amputees and gun stacking within.

Gunstacking: Stack Guns On Guns On Guns

By Lewie Procter on April 25th, 2011.

We all love the Serious Sam games. Who doesn’t enjoy clicking on bad guys in the face to make them die? But it’s hard to take them too seriously when Sam’s always been limited to one weapon per hand. What self respectable action hero doesn’t dream of wielding a small army’s worth of firearms at any given time? Serious Sam: Double D looks like it’s set to rectify this heinous design oversight from the rest of the series. I introduce you to Gunstacking. Read the rest of this entry »
