Shattered Horizon Free Weekend

By Jim Rossignol on June 2nd, 2010.

That’s this coming weekend, the 4th-6th. There’s a reason why I am pimping this one, however, which is that lots of people were interested by our recent examination of Shattered Horizon‘s maps and weapons updates, and this provides you an opportunity to actually try the astronautical zero-G fancy shootin’ game out for free. It’s also 50% off the normal price, which is precisely half as much as it normally costs. That, I insist, is science.

Might as well get an RPS contingent on there, eh?

The Moon Unstuck: Moonrise

By Jim Rossignol on February 16th, 2010.

Shattered Horizon, the zero-G astronaut deathmatch game from Futuremark Games Studio, didn’t have enough levels. That’s been remedied today with a free expansion, Moonrise, that delivers another four maps to the game. I have to say that while the game doesn’t seem to have captured people’s imaginations generally, this kind of space-porn level design is just the kind of thing I’d like to see more of. It’s kind of a shame it’s purely multiplayer, but perhaps if Futuremark can make a success of this they can look at something using the same tech in the future. Anyway, the full game is $15 on Steam, and there’s a video of the new levels looking all moody below.

Shattered Horizon To See “Moonrise”

By Jim Rossignol on November 16th, 2009.

Astronaut shooter Shattered Horizon will get a (free) four-map expansion in the near future. Testing on the new maps will begin soon, which is a good thing, as interesting space-levels are one of the best things about the game. “Selected players will help us test the new Moonrise levels from a very early stage,” says design lead Antti Summala, who we interviewed last month. “Level design for zero gravity combat is a big challenge and we are looking forward to having real players help us create new experiences that cannot be found in other FPS games.” The game is out now, and can be bought directly from the Shattered Horizon site. Check out my Eurogamer review for a verdict. There are also going to be Steam guest passes for existing players, soon.
