Onwards! SHIFT 2 DLC Free On PC

By Andrew Smee on June 28th, 2011.

I feel the need, the need for... uh. Maybe some toast?

You know the worst thing about racing? All that turning. Left, right, left, more left – who needs it? Best not to worry about those finer details and stick to what’s in front of you. This new Speedhunters DLC pack for SHIFT 2 should help with all that bother, adding the ability to go very fast in a straight line. Six tracks covering the Quarter Mile and Standing Mile disciplines, with fourteen new specialised cars, are landing June 30th alongside the Legends DLC, which features five tracks with the more traditional curvy parts and a dozen new cars of its own.

Both have been out for a couple of months in console land but us PC types will be getting them for free, via Origin. The excitable trailer’s eyeing the horizon after the jump.

Shift 2 Unleashed Has Cars Wot Go Fast

By Jim Rossignol on March 25th, 2011.

These cars are so close because they actually fancy each other, but will never admit it.
Shift 2 Unleashed is one handsome-lookin’ racing game, yes sir! And it’s out next week in the US and, er, now in Europe, I think. Oh no, that’s next week too. My mistake. Anyway, we’ll let you know our thoughts on the game fairly soon, and until then you might want to whet your appetite on the launch trailer. There is tasteless rock music and a car that didn’t make it. I’m sorry. It was just his time.

Shift 2 Unleashed’s “Career” Trailer

By Jim Rossignol on January 28th, 2011.

This doesn’t actually do much other than say that there is a career mode in Shift 2 – which you could probably have guessed even if you’d been living on a remote island since the 1970s – but it’s the footage of the game that really made me pay any attention: Shift 2 looks extraordinary, and the focus on GT racing makes it about as perfect for my automobile tastes as anything else out there. Electronic Arts are really starting to churn the kind of racers that I can agree with.

This, the 17th Need For Speed game, is out at the end of March.

Shift 2: Unleashed Gets Trailered, Dated

By Jim Rossignol on January 14th, 2011.

Via Blues, I spy a Shift 2: Unleashed trailer, which is posted below. The latest Need For Speed game is huge, with over 130 cars and 100 different tracks to race on, and features a bunch of the cleverness from Hot Pursuit, such as the in-helmet cam and the race-stat comparing autolog thing, which allows you to immediately compare your race-fu with online chums. The game us due on March 24, 2011 (March 29th in North America), and it looks a bit good.

Why Not Ponder Shift 2: Unleashed?

By Jim Rossignol on December 1st, 2010.

The next Need For Speed game, Shift 2: Unleashed is headed for the PC in Spring 2011. It’s looking rather strong, too, and you can see Executive Producer Marcus Nilsson talking about the project in this GameTrailers interview, below. In this video Nilsson talks about improvements to the engine – a new “helmet cam” view makes it look even more like the real-world view of racing – but also specifically about the “Autolog” feature, which also turned up in Hot Pursuit. This basically allows you to network with gaming chums, and to compares your accomplishments in the game against theirs. It’s looking good.
