A Simon Parkin Special: Cordy

By Kieron Gillen on June 24th, 2010.

CORDY!

Cordy, as Simon Parkin rightly notes, is a Little Big Planet clone, crammed into Unity. Only a couple of demo levels here, but feature all manner of Rube Goldberg styled levels of spinning, falling and crushing stuff. Very quick to play, and hopefully more to come – though, obviously, to be a real Little Big Planet clone, it’d have to include some manner of construction elements. WELCOME TO OUR ROBOT GAME state Silvertree media, proudly. I would be too.

The Small Things: Specter Spelunker Shrinks

By Kieron Gillen on March 25th, 2010.

It looks great in motion, btw. GO PARALLAX!

Within seconds of playing this Simon Parkin Special, I knew I was going to post it. And now, you’re all going to play it, because it features the best single thing you’ll experience today. The “it” is Specter Spelunker Shrinks. The execution leaves something to be desired – checkpoint positioning is off, is occasionally a bit laggy, etc – but the core wonder is just plain wonderful. The vague De Stijl art vibe is great, but the central Alice-In-Wonderland device deserves applause. There life in the indie-platformer-with-a-novel-idea formula yet. Go play! Some video follows! Yes!

Simon Parkin Special: First Person Tetris

By Kieron Gillen on January 14th, 2010.

I feel sick :(

It’s another Simon Parkin Special! Well, strictly speaking it’s not, as someone else told me about it first, but I’d much rather credit the sensual Simon. It’s first person tetris. He says it’ll “make you sick in 20 seconds max”. YOU MAKE ME SICK IN TWENTY SECONDS MAX, Simon. Go play here.

EDIT: And because there’s some confusion, the link is dead for some people and not for others. I presume it’s something due to it being a new site and the DNS hasn’t sorted itself out yet but – y’know – I’m not a techy.

Simon Parkin Special: Gimme Friction Baby

By Kieron Gillen on December 9th, 2009.

It's a Simon Parkin Special!

It’s one of what I call a Simon Parkin Special. Or, at least, I will now. Picked up from his flashgame-hungry twitter, it’s Gimme Friction Baby. It’s basically a cross between Puzzle Bobble, Bowls and those men who pay other people to inflate their testicles with saline. You fire balls upwards. Wherever they stop, they expand to fit the space. Each ball can take 3 hits. You get hits for destroying balls. You lose the game if a ball bounces back at you. It’s pretty compulsive. It’s a Simon Parkin Special!
