An Hour In The: SNOW Alpha

By Graham Smith on February 6th, 2014.

Gnarly masks, bro.

SNOW is currently in Steam Early Access, which means it’s unfinished but you can buy it and start playing right now. Let’s therefore put the buyer’s advice up top: you should not do that. While some games in Early Access are already robust, content-rich, and ready to offer dozens of hours of enjoyment, SNOW is not there yet. After an hour, you’ll have seen all there is to see.

That doesn’t mean that there isn’t tremendous potential in the idea: an open-world ski and snowboarding game, in which you can speed from one slope to another contiguously, or shoot off the track and and go exploring. There’s little hints here of what the game might become, and for that hour you might spend with it, you’d likely have fun.

Today Is A SNOW News Day

By Craig Pearson on August 9th, 2013.

That is, today is a day where I have a tiny bit more information and screenshots on the game SNOW. I would still be writing about SNOW on a busy day, because it’s a bit bonkers. A free-to-play open-world winter sports game that enables players to explore a mountain on skis and snowboards? I’m betting the developers are avid winter sporters.

Join Magicka’s Free Weekend Birthday Party

By Craig Pearson on January 19th, 2013.

1.8 million copies! Pull the cracker... KABOOM!
As the ice-god Wulþuz is exacting his revenge on the blasé warm bodies of Britain, it might be a good idea to sort yourself out with a game this weekend. You might get dripped on. You might nearly slip! Why even give yourself the option of leaving the house when you could be inside and away from the icy danger? You could just plug your name into Steam Roulette and see what pops up. Or, if you’re not one of the 1.8 million people that bought a copy of Magicka, then you could pop over to Steam and grab the free weekend.

Must Be Shouted: SNOW Announced

By Jim Rossignol on November 2nd, 2011.

SHOUT THAT FUCKER!
The SNOW dev team are making some bold claims for their freshly-announced all-caps mountain-descending title. It’s being built in CryEngine 3, and will take a physics-based, simulationy approach to white stuff. Here’s one claim: “Using a completely new and improved control scheme that pays attention to the actual experience of skiing and snowboarding, SNOW enhances the link between player and character, creating a superior gaming experience.” And another claim: “Completely Open World. You are able to explore the rich environment any way you please. Mountains consist of dozens of different routes and discoverable items, encouraging the player to explore and define their own line.”

SNOW trailer below. SNOW!

The RPS Bargain Bucket: Snowed in

By Lewie Procter on December 18th, 2010.

This is the particularly lovely wintery view from my window this morning. Have you got snow?

Winter has got its frosty grip on the UK. I recommend you stay in doors with a cup of hot tea, and play some of these lovely cheap video games. Do not go outside unless it is an absolute emergency. Some Christmas sales have already kicked off, although the big Steam one won’t be with us for a few days. Be sure to keep an eye on SavyGamer.co.uk if you want to make sure you don’t miss out on any of the epic savings this holiday season. Here’s this week’s selection: Read the rest of this entry »
