Riddick: Assault On Dark April

At last we have a release date for the remake-come-sequel to Starbreeze’s brawn+brains opus, The Chronicles of Riddick. Seems like the thing’s been in development for ages, presumably because at some point in the process it sprouted a whole new storyline in addition to high-definitionifying the original Escape From Butcher Bay Campaign. We’ll get to hear Vin Diesel pretending the last five years of career suicide didn’t happen and stepping back into the gravelly larynx of his most successful character on April 7th.

Well, I say “we”, but I mean “you Americans.” We Europeans have to wait until April 24th. Atari are distributing, and I have this to say to them…

Speculative Rumour: Is Syndicate Coming Back?

Will Kieron start wearing the leather coat again?

Well, if this is true, it’s a bit of a surprise. CVG are claiming that EA will soon be announcing a new Syndicate game. Yes, Syndicate. Way back in February EA signed a deal with Starbreeze to make an old game from the EA cupboards. Known as “Project RedLime”, no one knew what it was. Kieron madly guessed Archon. We naturally asked you to guess, and kudos to commenters who got it. (Apart from the ones who listed the entire EA back catalogue). If CVG are right, that is.

Retro: The Chronicles Of Riddick

One particular game seems to have come up a great deal in our gaming discussions from the past couple of months, and so I decided it was time to go back and play it. 2004’s The Chronicles Of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay (TCOREFBR?) is one of those games that sits at the back of my mind, silently benchmarking everything else that has appeared since. It is one of those action games that really doesn’t seem to have had much influence over the course of gaming, and yet is a splendid comparative high-watermark for anything with guns, or fists. Weirdly, for a first-person action game, the fists are actually what is most important.
