SteamWorld Heist: A Turn-Based Space Robot Roguelite

One of the most overlooked games of 2013 was Image & Form’s SteamWorld Dig. A total overhaul of the splendid 3DS original, it combined puzzling, exploration, a dash of Spelunky, and the all important mining, to create a Metroidvania that I merrily completed a second time over for its PC version. So it’s with a keen ear that I hear news of their next game: SteamWorld Heist. However, despite the shared title, this is a whole other game – a space-themed, turn-based, survival game, scavenging a dead world with a team of rusty robots. Wot I Think: SteamWorld Dig: A Fistful Of Dirt

We learned late last month that metroidvania-meets-Spelunky-and-other-stuff dig-em-up SteamWorld Dig, the 3DS hit, was making its way to PC. Today it’s arrived, on Steam, and I’ve finished it all over again. Here’s wot I think:

RPS Exclusive: SteamWorld Dig Coming To PC!

There’s a good chance you’ve not played one of the best games of 2013. Back in August, 3DS download game SteamWorld Dig came from nowhere, to receive a flurry of 8s and 9s. It was a breakout hit on the portable platform, and deservedly so. At that perfect meeting point between Metroidvania and Mr Driller, capturing the essence of Spelunky, and achieving absolutely precision platforming, it was a massive, joyful surprise. And yet, as I devoured it, I kept thinking: wouldn’t this be even better on PC?

RPS can exclusively reveal that it is to be. An HD remake will be arriving on Steam on the 5th December. We’ve got the world’s first footage of the new version below, and the first interview with the team about the transition to the Mother Platform.
