Wot I Think: Strider

By Rich Stanton on February 25th, 2014.

Hands up folks, who wants to play a game that makes you feel awesome? That looks incredible? The game that has had my stomach doing somersaults, my right thumb hammering away for all it’s worth, and my brain pumping out adrenaline like Coca-Cola at a Justin Bieber concert? Strider is that game! Oh man Strider is that game. YES! If ‘it’ for you is 2D combat platformers that push every big red button at once, then Strider Is It!

ReNinja: Strider Leaps In Today

By Ben Barrett on February 19th, 2014.

FACE OFF

As a writer for Rock, Paper, Shotgun I am contractually obliged to know absolutely nothing about the series that Capcom are most recently rebooting. Previously consigned purely to the arcades and consoles, protagonist Strider Hiryu and his menagerie of robots was firmly beyond my grasp. I was disallowed any knowledge of his wall-hanging, ninja-running, platform-jumping ways and any investigation into the original late 80s arcade game, which this remake is based on, was redirected to Monkey Island Studies. Thank goodness for other people’s nostalgia, as from today the pyjama-clad death machine is available on Steam with a launch trailer below, if you’re quick enough.

Centipedal Force: Strider

By Adam Smith on October 10th, 2013.

I just dodged the biggest bullet of my professional career. New Strider has a flying centipede monster, which may or may not be a rebooted Ouroboros, but it did lead me to search for Strider centipede. Google had this to say – “Did you mean: spider centipede”. No, Google, I absolutely did not.

Oh, Hurrah: Capcom’s Strider Revival Getting PC Version

By Nathan Grayson on July 19th, 2013.

Never bring a sword to a gunfight unless you are every videogame character

No, not Aragorn from Lord of the Rings. No, not the Half-Life 2 spindle horror colossus. No, not the giant mecha thing from Stanisław Lem’s Fiasco. No, not the tiny bicycle brand. No, not the pony named after Aragorn from Lord of the Rings. This Strider is an ultra-ninja from a future that (sadly) never will be. He battles the Cybersoviet Union’s robot legion in the year 2048. That kind of thing. Also, he’s renowned for going ages between series revivals – like a fallen phoenix who keeps hitting the snooze button. Strider 2, for instance, came out nearly ten years after the first, and the latest installment has taken even longer to surface. Simply titled Strider, it bears both good and bad news. Good: It’s on PC! Bad: Double Helix is developing, and their track record is not the best.
