Cold Comfort: The Supreme Ruler Demo

By Alec Meer on July 22nd, 2011.

'Battlegoat Studios' is the best of all the developer names

When I hear the phrase ‘supreme ruler’, I think of the kid at school who had some sort of outlandish sliderule with extruding pieces festooned with measurement units I’d never heard of and a built-in magnifying glass and probably a hyperdrive or something, while the rest of us stared miserably at our 15cm strips of easily-shattered plastic.

Perhaps, in time, I shall also associate the phrase with Paradox’s brink-of-nuclear-apocalypse strategy game Supreme Ruler: Cold War. You too can now familiarise yourself with this grand strategy title thanks to this here demo.

Dots of War… Supreme Ruler: Cold War

By Richard Cobbett on July 19th, 2011.

Hey, I can see my house from up here. And nuke yours. So watch it!

Giving me control over either the US or USSR in the middle of the Cold War would probably be a bad idea. Not only am I the worst RTS player in the history of the universe, I just don’t think I’d be able to resist the temptation of launching a few nukes to see if I could draw a big smiley face in the middle of Utah. If you’ve got the patience and tactical thinking required to take the job on though, Paradox’s Supreme Ruler: Cold War is out today. Very scary trailer follows.

Rockin': Supreme Ruler: Cold War Footage

By Jim Rossignol on April 7th, 2011.

Moscow, yesterday.
Supreme Ruler: Cold War, the latest in the Supreme Ruler series of strategy games, is an extremely large and intricate Cold War-era war title, featuring lots of diplomacy and a global conflict map which can be played as a giant sandbox game of domination. Heavy stuff. So it’s admirable to see its developers, Battlegoat Studios, sexing things up with a trailer full of repurposed newsreel footage and a rock-n-rolling soundtrack. Diplomacy! Menu-sliders! Tiny tanks moving along roads! Sexxxxyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!

Ahem. It could be good. No release date yet, but “Q2″ this year, for sure.

The Paradox Convention Preview Blowout

By Quintin Smith on January 24th, 2011.

CAPITAL LETTERS ARE AMPHETAMINES FOR THE SOUL

Last week I was in New York, eating pizza and inventing all-new comparative metaphors for how cold it was (“colder than Bobby Kotick’s eyes”, “colder than a Game Gear’s battery”, “colder than a handjob from an eel”). Why? Because last week was the yearly Paradox Convention, where journalists are invited to meet a whole bag of developers and look at all of Paradox’s upcoming releases.

In short, we’ve got even more to look forward to in 2011 than we thought. I’ll be going through these at top speed, so put on your protective goggles and we’ll take a look. Do I have to remind you of the boy who once read a succinct article of mine and lost an eye? No? Good.
