You may have noticed we’ve introduced a CAPTCHA check into our comments. You may hate it. WELL IT HATES YOU TOO. But seriously – it’s only four characters, and it’s not one of those bastard illegible ones. It is indeed necessary, because we’ve been drawing in a frightening amount of spam lately – basically, it’s either this or you spend your time here reading about how to get herbal viagra and Ugg boots on the cheap. Deleting that stuff has become beyond tiresome.

Also! You can avoid the Captcha by registering. We have no particular reason for wanting you to do this, but it does make life easier for you. As does the new login button at the toppermost right of RPS…

There’s been plenty of predicition lately that the age of supermegapixelshaderooed blockbuster games on PC might be drawing to a close, in favour of lower-spec, lower-profile inventiveness from the indie, MMO, browser-based and casual scenes. What there hasn’t been is much hard data that reflects this possible sea change. The news that current 3D card king NVIDIA recorded an eyewatering $30 million loss last year (that’s after a $797.6m profit in the preceding year) could have something to do with it.

If you’ll forgive us something of a technical tangent, we find ourselves with a problem we’re too stupid to solve – and it’s possible one of you wonderful people might be able to help us. This post may be a little tedious if you don’t have any web-fiddling knowledge/interest, so I’ll stick the cut in now to keep its frontpage visibility to a minimum
