Okay, Teleglitch Is Amazing(ly Hard)

By Jim Rossignol on February 22nd, 2013.

This is the problem: there’s too much other stuff. I run a PC games site, and even I missed this one arriving late last year. And I shouldn’t have. A top-down, claustrophobic horror-shooter with procedural levels. It’s brilliant, horrifying, commanding, excruciating. We’ve posted about Teleglitch before, of course, but last night the boy Quinns told me that we hadn’t written enough about it, and that it was “a phenomenon”, like a top-down System Shock, he said. Coming back to it today, I realised I’d played a few minutes of it and become distracted, thinking to return later. Short-term memory was over-written. Forgotten. The old beta is still here, installed and abandoned on my gaming desktop. I had no idea. I grabbed the latest version and went back for the afternoon.

Well. Quinns wasn’t wrong.

Doom With A (Top-Down) View: Teleglitch

By Adam Smith on November 26th, 2012.

Teleglitch puts you in the shoes of a researcher on Medusa 1-C. It’s an ultra-intense top-down version of a shooter you have fond memories of, perhaps Doom or Quake, with the addition of randomly configured levels, desperate ammo shortages and screen-wounding glitches to mark every bullet, blast and bite. It’s the work of three indie devs in Estonia and you may remember my coverage of the beta many months ago. The full version has just been released and I’ve played for an hour this morning, which involved spending almost five minutes running through the second level with a horde of monsters chasing me. Try the demo and look at the trailer below.

Death And Distortion: Teleglitch

By Adam Smith on December 2nd, 2011.

It's really hard to get a screenshot of action because of intentional visual distortion. Sorry!

I’m not entirely sure if the things attacking me are zombies or if they are just very angry men. They run, I sidestep, they crash into a wall as they attempt to pursue, their turning circles more akin to a small car than a bipedal life form. What are they? Maybe I’ll never know but when they surround me, the distinctive sound of being clobbered pours from my speakers. Whatever they are, they definitely want to do me harm. There are more distinctive monsters in the dark corridors of indie top-down shooter Teleglitch, but the majority of my time in the four levels of the freely available beta was spent cautiously exploring dark corridors and fending off furious men. Who may have been dead already. Trailer below.
