The Dead Linger Coming To Steam With New Engine

By Nathan Grayson on September 24th, 2013.

The dead just won’t go away. I’ve tried calling a re-exterminator, setting out traps with bait, asking them very nicely – everything. But still, they linger. I can’t complain too much, though. I mean, The Dead Linger really does have quite a lot going for it, what with its planet-sized sandbox of undead survival, fully interactable environments, and wrenches that are used not for wrench things but for merciless bopping. The only problem? It is a bit creaky and kind of entirely hideous. Or at least, it was. Fortunately, those lingering (and perhaps occasionally walking, and hopefully thriller-ing) dead are in for a major face-lift. Developer Sandswept has announced that alpha update 10 is coming to Steam Early Access, and it’ll be sporting a fresh new coat of sticky red paint to mark the occasion.

Hammer Time: The Dead Linger’s Barricade Update

By Craig Pearson on May 22nd, 2013.

The second victims will be the innocent planks of wood, who will suffer from the nails and clumsy hammer thumps of people trying to keep the undead at bay. I’ll make sure I create a monument to the brave thumbs and planks when I get into The Dead Linger, Sandswept Studio’s open-world game of post-apocalyptic survival. I’ll be able to because they’ve just added some interesting freeform barricading to their procedurally-generated world, allowing builders to create anything from shoddy fences, to solid, nearly impenetrable walls.

Death Sentence: The Dead Linger’s Prison Update

By Adam Smith on February 18th, 2013.

It’s been a long time since we checked on the enormous procedurally generated zombie survival antics of The Dead Linger and the alpha, which is currently available for purchase, has changed considerably in the interim. The next update, which should be live tomorrow, adds more variety to suburban settings and a new prison environment will now appear in the world. It’s a grim, dark place but also the sort of building that a brave survivor might well be tempted to explore in hope of finding weaponry. The previous update completely overhauled world generation, aiming to create more believable landscapes and locations. Both update videos are below.

Dead Linger Has A Playable Alpha

By John Walker on October 31st, 2012.

Anyone who has pre-ordered zombie sandbox mulitplayer (if you want) survival sim The Dead Linger will now be able to get playing with the alpha. The game, a hugely ambitious project that intends to give you an entire world to survive in, and no artificial walls to restrict you, casts you as a regular human with limited capacity to stay alive.
