Cel And Back: First Templar Celian Trailer

By Quintin Smith on April 21st, 2011.

See, this is why hoods are impractical. No peripheral vision.

Last week we had a look at Roland, playable character #1 in upcoming co-operative swordstravaganza The First Templar. This week it’s the turn of Celian, who I think I prefer for much the same reasons as I liked Isaac in the first Dead Space; a grim kind of practicality. Celian seems to spend as much time stabbing people as he does kicking them, grabbing them, pushing them over or just belting them with his shield. If he just had a move where he picked up a nearby stone and chucked it at their eye I’d be in love. See what I mean after the jump.

The First Templar’s Roland Says Hi

By Jim Rossignol on April 14th, 2011.

Roland is a lovely name for a knight. Or a cat.
And he says hi by completely STABBING YOU IN THE NECK. The First Templar is due in May, and as previously noted, it sits well within the current trend for sword action that appears to be taking place in gaming. Roland is one of The First Templar’s playable characters, and he likes a bit of melee violence, as you can see from his very own trailer, which is below. As I understand it he’s just playable in the prologue, before the lady is unlocked, which suggests he might turn out to be the villain or something. Hmm! He does seem a bit fire and brimstone, eh?

Swords And Paucity: An Observation

By Jim Rossignol on March 31st, 2011.

Seperated at birth?
There are two games coming out this summer featuring swordplay and templars with beards. One of these is The Cursed Crusade, the other is The First Templar. I would you like you to compare and contrast these videos: here and here.

Alternatively, use this. That is all.

A Stab At It: The First Templar

By Jim Rossignol on March 24th, 2011.

Dudes totally get stabbed, you know
Wandering the streets of San Francisco the other week I happened to stumble on a hotel where Kalypso Media were showing off The First Templar. Lucky for me, I thought, because I’d actually been meaning to find out a bit about the game. Turns out it’s a ferocious co-op melee game, with elements of Tomb Raider. As Kalypso themselves admitted, they aren’t really taking on the Assassin’s Creeds of this world in terms of visuals or feature set, but the game nevertheless has some appealling elements: customisation of your character’s combat skills, some co-op puzzles (which you solve by swapping between the characters in single-player) and some large scale brawls across medieval environs. The game is looking suitably violent, and I think it could do well if it comes out at a lower price point. It’s coming out on May 10th, and I’ve posted the trailer which accompanies that announcement below.

The Last One To Know: The First Templar

By Jim Rossignol on November 15th, 2010.

wuh oh
Hmmph, the instruments must be playing up. I somehow didn’t get a proper reading on The First Templar which was announced earlier this year. It’s a sword-based Medieval-dude-ending experience from Haemimont Games, whose name you might recognise from Tropico 3 and Grand Ages: Rome. A bit of a departure then, from management to third-person action. (I spent a long moment there trying to come up with a “management to man-rage-something” joke, but it just couldn’t happen.) It’s the story of the Holy Grail, apparently, and that involves co-op melee action, stealth kills, ogres, and all sorts of other third-person violencing possibilities. Possibly worth a look.

I thrust a trailer into the bowels of this post, killing it dead.
