The RPS Bargain Bucket: Cats in Planes

By Cassandra Khaw on May 31st, 2014.

This week has been a bit of a blur for me albeit in an awesome way. It’s not every day you’re startled into remembering that a beloved book series is being adapted for the television. (The Strain is squee, guys. Squee.) I can’t abide by the kind of vampires that have slowly crept into media these days. Flashy, sparkly things built for lust rather than terror. Ugh. Needless to say, the vampires in del Toro’s show are anything but sexy. Anyway, here’s this week’s conglomeration of bargains! Enjoy. (And tell me about your favourite horror movies in the comments.) The evil skeleton bunny is courtesy of lemming!

The RPS Bargain Bucket: Suave People

By Cassandra Khaw on May 24th, 2014.

Who knew cosplay events could be so packed? I spent the earlier part of today cautiously inching through a local mall in search of candid moments. Unfortunately, I didn’t come home with too many photos. I was shy, and everyone else had a better assortment of camera equipment. Also, the shoving. Oh, the shoving. On the bright side, I managed to come home in one piece – you’d really be surprised as to how eager some people are to punt passer-bys out of the way. Obligatory rambling aside, here’s hoping that your week has been excellent. As always, we’ve got a bucket full of cheap games to tempt your impulsive side. The backlog demands feeding. (Dosbox’s dragon sends his greetings to all the ladies.)

The RPS Bargain Bucket: Mountain High

By Cassandra Khaw on May 17th, 2014.

Lightroom is going to eat my soul. Lightroom has already eaten my soul. After weeks of debate, I finally capitulated and resigned myself to purchasing the software. Then, it devoured my Saturday. All of it. Each and every moment not otherwise spent dealing with human ablutions and food. I am ashamed, but also hopelessly smitten with the software. (Do you have any useful obsessions, Bucketeers?) Fortunately, I managed to extricate myself long enough from Lightroom to hunt down a few, nifty bargains for you. Enjoy. I’m going back to cleaning acne from digital faces.

The RPS Bargain Bucket: A Bucket of Joy

By Cassandra Khaw on May 10th, 2014.

So, I found out the other week that burgers aren’t so much fast food as they are culinary adventures in Britain. Bone marrow, brisket, and fine-cooked beef served in outlets that utilize bodyguards and queues. Is this true, British people? (Tell me about your favorite place to eat. You don’t have to be British.) If so, I need to move. This week’s Bargain Bucket isn’t quite as delicious as one of those fabled burgers, but it does have more than a few meaty surprises. (P.S: That’s Bloop, Oliver and Kristoff in the bucket. And a nameless plant.)

The RPS Bargain Bucket: Free Stuff!

By Cassandra Khaw on May 3rd, 2014.

Happy Free Comic Book Day! If you live in a city that believes in this most glorious of days, I recommend dashing out to check out your local comic book stores for, well, free comics. Seriously, go! Go and wallow in the splendour of stuff you don’t need to spend money on. At least, if you’re able to. This week’s Bargain Bucket is rife with books, old games and, er, more old games. (I like retro games.) This plushie was its owner’s favorite childhood toy. His name is Fattie. Now, say “D’awwww!

The RPS Bargain Bucket: Scary Fuzz

By Cassandra Khaw on April 26th, 2014.

Ever had one of those weeks where you feel like you were gobbled up, chewed on and spat back out? Yeah, it was one of those weeks for me. I’m not even really sure why. It could well be the inexorable build up to this year’s summer blockbusters and the endless nights of writing that will no doubt follow. On another note, bargain hunters should probably monitor Gamersgate for the next few days. It looks like the site is doing some awesome flash deals and whatnot. This week’s plushie comes from lemming. His buckets put mine to shame. Also, that … thing is terrifying.

The RPS Bargain Bucket: Fluffy Showdown

By Cassandra Khaw on April 19th, 2014.

If it wasn’t obvious already, I have a camera. An actual camera. Not a dinky, built-into-my-phone camera but an actual camera. Obviously, plushie-related images are now going to appear in abundance. (Bargain Bucket regulars may recognize the floppy white figure in the foreground; it’s the first plushie we ever featured on this column.) As always, it’s that time of the week again and it looks like the Bargain Bucket has discounted shinies to spare.

The RPS Bargain Bucket: Convention Season

By Cassandra Khaw on April 12th, 2014.

Ah, conventions. While a reason for giddy exuberance among gamers big and small, they’re not unlike games journalism’s answer to The Labors of Hercules. Seriously, these stop being fun after the fifteenth interview of the day. Trust me on this. Brr. Anyway. With everyone else on the floor and alit with excitement about upcoming games, this is probably the perfect time to talk about discounted games. Old games, new games, games you’ve probably never heard about. They might lack the razzle and dazzle of upcoming games but at least you can play them now. Either way, the Bargain Bucket is rattling with cheap bargains for you. Today’s plushie is brought to you by Angel Tear and the number 12.

The RPS Bargain Bucket: Memories

By Cassandra Khaw on April 5th, 2014.

Sometime last week or so, my grandfather died. I went back to the ancestral home, met my estranged father and gave his outrageously young wife a hug. In sitcoms, this would normally be where the honey-glazed sappiness starts. But, well. Real life doesn’t work that way. Sorry for not being around, guys. (I don’t usually like linking to anything outside of my specified work scope but this piece about my granddad and this one about my dad seemed relevant to share. I get to be indulgent sometimes, right?) In the meantime, here are a stack of cheap games. This week’s extremely surprised-looking wombat is from kfix. Yay!

The RPS Bargain Bucket: Merlion Meditation

By Cassandra Khaw on March 22nd, 2014.

Hello, Bucket-eers! Today, I’m writing in from sunny Singapore where the food is great and people keep tripping over my extension cord. Also, a word of advice for those positioned for an imminent trip somewhere foreign: never pick a cafe parked next to a gaming memorabilia store. The effect such places have on your wallet is positively magnetic, I tell you. Magnetic. Because I’m typing this in between trying to catch my laptop each time someone tugs on the wire, today’s introduction will be short, frantic and slightly rambly. Our fuzzy Companion Cube of the day is from one Alex F. Enjoy the bargains. I’m going to finish up before someone sends my poor Fenris flying.

The RPS Bargain Bucket: Bundle of Joy

By Cassandra Khaw on March 15th, 2014.

You can blame this week’s title on one Matthew Parsons, who delivered this image of “pig” aka “the plushie that is occasionally called Arnold.” On top of sending in a community stuffed animal, Mr. Parsons also shot a picture of said cuddly toy’s round-cheeked owner. In a bucket. Yes, there’s a picture of a little girl with a bucket on her head in my inbox. I am dead from cute. Anyway, have some cheaply priced bundles of joy in honour of Mr. Parsons’ bundle of joy.

The RPS Bargain Bucket: High on Life

By Cassandra Khaw on March 8th, 2014.

Hello, Bucketeers! Something weird happened this week. The Internet gave me a dose of that thing called “faith in the human spirit.” After having his finances upturned by that thing called a questionable health care system, IGF chairman Brandon Boyer put up a cancer treatment relief fund on GoFundMe. And after only five days? It’s almost, almost at its target goal of $110, 000. Which is bloody amazing and a testament to how damn cool the video game industry is. I love you guys. You make me so damn happy, sometimes. But that’s my public service ramble of the week. Now, here are some cool games going for cheap. (And plushies. Their names are Hoot and Rambert.)

The RPS Bargain Bucket: Sea Sales

By Cassandra Khaw on March 1st, 2014.

Hello! I bet you were worried there’d be no bargains (plushies) this week. Sorry about that. Family tends to want to monopolize your time when you haven’t seen them in a while. Anyway, it looks like the year is slowly beginning to ramp up. New games and announcements seem to pop up every time I turn around. GDC is barely weeks away. All around me, I hear games journalists sharpening their metaphorical blades, ready to engage in a gladiatorial write-to-the-finish. Or something. This week’s plushie, which looks like it might sorely be in need of larger living accommodations, is courtesy of one Jason Kruta, who failed to include their RockPaperShotgun username and, as such, must be referred to by name.
